Sussex uni accommodation help

Hi,

Im starting at sussex in sept 2021, and am struggling to pick my accommodation! Im concerned that due to Covid social life may be a bit more tricky, so I want to make sure I'm staying somewhere fun and social, but not too crazy.

Norwich House seems a good option, but there isn't many pictures of it online. Could someone tell me what its like and whether or not it can be a bit too noisy?
East slope also looks great, but as it looks quite popular im worried that I won't get it!
Overall, any info about social life and social accommodation would be great thanks

Personally, I have not lived in Norwich House before. However, I have found a pretty good video, showing you this accommodation: Norwich House. It goes over the main advantages and disadvantages of living in Norwich, from a perspective of a current resident. Thus, you may find it helpful!

Yes, East Slope is quite popular, indeed. Still, you can always put this as one of your options on your application. Most certainly, if you do so, you will not be disadvantaged in any way!

Generally speaking, the bigger flats (like Norwich House) tend to be the most social. Still, from my personal experience of living in smaller size accommodation, I would argue that no matter which type of on-campus housing you choose, there will be plenty of opportunities for socialising! Equally, the university offers opportunities to join numerous clubs and societies, which again are a great avenue for meeting new people!

Hi! Just adding to what Kasia said, from my experience Northfield has a good balance between having a good social life but not being too hectic. I lived there in 1st year and was in a flat of 6, so there was always someone to speak to but it wasn't so many people that I'd have to worry about noise. There were many different blocks of accommodation so I definitely felt a sense of community there and got to know people from other flats. I realise this may be slightly different now in terms of mixing with people given the current climate but it's definitely a great place to live in! The only downsides I'd say are that it is further away from lecture buildings compared to other accommodation choices and is on the more pricey end, but in terms of a good social balance Northfield is a place I recommend

Have a look at Private Purpose Built Student Accommodation too. Pavilion Point and Abacus House are near to the city centre for shops, bars and the seafront, and have a mix of all years and Universities and Colleges within. Scape, Hollingbury house, Student Castle are further up the Lewes Road, so near to the Sussex Uni but away from the fun. Many have social spaces and some even have a Residents Gym. Depends on your budget. Hope that helps.
