Maths please help?

I really need help. The question is as followed

Eva grows strawberries on her farm
She has this information about the total weight of strawberries grown from 2014 to 2018

Table; 2014. 2015. 2016. 2017. 2018.
Weight/ 105. 104. 102. 90. 83.

Each year there was 200 strawberry plants on the farm

Eva thinks that the mean weight of strawberries grown per plant in a year is between 2/5kg and 1/2kg from 2014 to 2018

Is Eva correct?


Also, why should Eva not use this mean for her estimate of strawberries she will grow in the next year?

I feel like I’m interpreting it incorrectly but don’t you basically need to find the weight of strawberries/per plan?

The highest weight of strawberries per plant is in 2014, 105/200 = 0.525

The lowest weight of strawberries per plant is in 2018? 83/200 = 0.415

Hence Eva is incorrect, since she says it’s between 0.4 and 0.5 but in 2014 it’s higher than 0.5

That’s what I thought too, but my partner pointed out that the question is ‘the mean’ of the weight, so that’s where I’ve been thrown

You have to calculate the mean of all of the years, so she ends up being correct
