Childcare Grant / Maintenance Loan

Just wondering if the household wage calculated against the lowest or highest threshold of which the wage is closest to? Or are all wages calculated against the lowest threshold?
Please can you provide me with the threshold for the maintenance loan also.

Hi there, we look at the gross income.

You can view the thresholds at the top of page 4 here https://www.practitioners.slc.co.uk/media/1833/ssin-financial-memorandum-for-2021.pdf

Thanks, Isaac

Hi sorry I mean for instance a self employed wage of say 27k would that have the lowest threshold of £11,118 deducted off before calculating the entitlement or as the 27k is nearer to the higher threshold will £27,131 be taking from it? It’s abit confusing.
Also with self employment should the personal allowance of £12500 be deducted from top gross figure as it isn’t taxable? Thanks

I don't understand you because we don't need to know the students income. Only the sponsors income.
Please explain more clearly.
Thanks, Isaac

If your husbands wage is 27k then you would be entitled to £131.4 of childcare grant for the whole year.

Ok thanks I thought this may be the case. What about the maintenance loan? As I will have to use this to pay for my childcare for my 3 children. Thanks

With a 27k HHI, you should receive very close to the maximum amount.

You can use the calculator here https://www.gov.uk/student-finance-calculator to work it out.

Great thank you! I know someone who received 11700 maintenance loan offer from household income of 24k. Would this be an error?

If your course is longer than 30 weeks and 3 days then yes you should also be awarded the Long Course Loan.
