Ridiculous. This headteacher is a joke. He is giving a clear message to his teaching staff and the local community that - when it comes to Islam - the usual rules give way to intimation. The only possible discourse is on their terms: what offends them. But this freedom of expression goes both ways. What about the limitless people who find the tenants of Islam offensive? And yet, I wouldn't dream of restricting another person's right of expression as a result of their faith's affront. Because we continually surrender fights and challenges, and nobody quite knows when the precious feelings of some aggrieved Muslims are infringed; Islam (like some doctrinaire ideology) controls its own narrative otherwise it must be conducted above whisper.

Muslims will say that their prophet Mohamed is absolutely sacred and any such depiction is forbidden. But this is completely & utterly 100% irrelevant. It may be forbidden in their religion. If they want to be good Muslims, then they shouldn't do it. But they have no right to demand that others follow the tenants of their faith. Such an imposition is a real breach of civility and tolerance in a multi-cultural multi-ethnic hodgepodge. We all tolerate things we disapprove and dislike because we grant other people some modicum of respect.

I saw this line on the BBC article:

One of the protesters, a local resident who gave his name as Abdullah, said the cartoon offended "the whole Muslim community".

Why do these ultra-Orthodox sectarian ancahronists pretend they speak for everyone else. Most of my Muslim friends could care less about cartoons!!

I added the modifier 'wannabe' in that for a reason. As to far right, well, i can only suggest you read the wiki page you liked, such as it is. And actually look at his policies. Equally, i did add hard right to both of them for a reason due to the somewhat fuzzy line people have created between the two.

Hmmm.

It's always the loudest minority who get their voices heard and who always claim they represent the whole of their religion.

This is about hard-line minorities (from within a larger collective) dictating the whole narrative and closing down challenges to their hegemony by using the British public culture for guilt, tolerance and apology.

To see where this leads look towards Hong Kong, Taiwan, Kremlin, North Korea, Xi Jingping's PRC and religious extremism.

Religious fascism is a real and present danger.

The Purpose of Life charity has been reported to the Charity Commission for leaving the teacher in danger of “physical harm” by publishing his name online.

A Charity Commission spokesman said: “We are aware of this matter. We have contacted the trustees of Purpose of Life today for further information and their response to our regulatory concerns; this will inform our next steps.”

This is a clear case of islamophobia and incitement on the teacher's part. It is right that he should be sacked and face prosecution. This goes far beyond free speech and into the realms of hate speech. He knew that it would upset and offend his muslim pupils yet he did it anyway.
