Mitosis is a type of cell division where one cell duplicates its organelles (mitochondria, ribosomes etc) and splits to make two genetically identical “daughter cells”

Cell differentiation is where a stem cell specialises, so it has a specific job such as a muscle cell or a root hair cell.

Binary fission is the type of asexual reproduction used by bacteria where a single organism becomes two organisms.

Stem cells are unspecialised cells, meaning they can take on any job.

Diffusion is the moving of substances from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration, for example oxygen going from the lungs into the blood, the oxygen is diffusing into the blood because there’s lots of oxygen in the lungs, and little in the blood, so this needs to be balanced out via diffusion.

Osmosis is like diffusion, but specifically the diffusion of water across a partially permeable membrane.

Active transport is the opposite of diffusion- the movement of substances from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration; such as minerals in the soil into the root of a plant. This requires energy as it is against the concentration gradient.
