diagnostic radiography ??

i originally applied for biochemistry but now i want to do diagnostic radiography.. is it too late?? can i reject all my offers and try ucas extra or clearing? does radiography even go into clearing ? i'm willing to take a year out and reapply

You can definitely go through clearing into radiography. I changed my mind as to what course I wanted to do last year and many of the unis I called had radiography places still open, that's how I got onto my radiography course. If you're 100% sure you want to reject your offers you might as well try extra since you won't be losing anything. Good luck :smile:

That's ok, no worries. I got offered quite a few places through clearing and only one of them wanted an interview so I wouldn't worry about it. It was through the phone and the questions were basic, along the lines of "what do you think a day in the life of radiographer is like?" I don't think it was more competitive, I completely got flunked my grades but all the unis that I called still offered me a place, you should just look at what the entry requirements for the unis you want to call are (although those might get lowered for clearing).

ive seen some diagnostic radiography courses on ucas extra but ive emailed a few unis just to double check if they have some spaces left. if they say yes then yeah im gonna apply for it through ucas extra. are u in year 12 or year 13? cos some unis allow u to get in with a certain amount of ucas points (around 112-120)

ahh u still have a lot of time left!! i know that Herts, BCU and UWEbristol accept ucas points (120) and that's quite lenient tbh. u can check what combo of grades would get you up to 120 points by typing in "ucas tariff points" on google

what a-levels do u do btw?

You do do it directly at a Uni, the Navy pays for you to be a student at Birmingham City University.

It's worth a look, you would get a salary while doing your Radiography degree at BCU.

ohh. i think unis might be a bit more lenient with the whole work experience thing as covid has made it more difficult to get work experience. but getting work experience at a charity shop or volunteering with children can also give u something to talk about (like the qualities u learnt for example, communication, empathy, compassion etc) which are important too

That's OK, the fitness part which you have to pass during an application is just a run on a treadmill!

You have to do a short test on Reasoning, Verbal Ability, Numeracy and Mechanical Comprehension too, be interviewed and then attend an Assessment Board.

Anyway, worth checking out if you can, financially it puts you in a really good position.

PS If you click on the Expression of Interest button, you get a phone call to confirm your interest, but it's up to you whether you apply.

I've suggested this to you because I think that, if you were successful, you would be able to start this year.

OP be careful about considering to train with the army. Yeah you can earn some money but if you want to work in regular hospitals / healthcare and hate the idea of being in the military / overseas on deployment then it may not be a good option for you. There may be a period of time where you're committed to working with the military too so do plenty of research and make sure you know what it would involve if you do it, you might have to go into the field. Taking a gap year would be better than starting this year if it isn't your thing.

Make sure that any course you go for would lead to the professional registration necessary to start working right away too.
