Budgeting recommendations

Does anyone have any recommendations for good budgeting apps to use to track expenses? Or any good mobile banks with budgeting features for an international student? Thanks!
pen and paper may seems old-fashioned, but it makes you keep track of all the things more carefully

Hi there,

This is an important topic, so it's great that you're actively thinking about it. Some students will have monthly incomes from part-time jobs, others have to live off the lump sum that is their student loan for a number of months. Regardless of your situation, it's important to budget.

There are several ways of doing it (with various apps or programmes etc) but it doesn't need to be anything fancy. As long as you work out how much you have, how much that has to last you, then have a rough think about how much you can spend on each outgoing each month - then you should be fine. Here is an example:

- next student loan: £2000
- this has to last untl the next payment which is 3 months away
- this means I have £666 a month to spend

Monthly budget (all numbers are for demonstration purposes):
- Food: £200
- Social events: £100
- Rent: £200
- Phone bill: £25
- Travel: £75
- Left over: £66

Don't forget, always leave a little for a 'rainy day'.

Good luck
