Advice on how to prepare for a PGDE before starting the course?

Hi me too! There isn't much on here specifically about Glasgow, however I found a reading list from 2019 and so downloaded the books I could. I don't have a copy but type into google and it should come up it was a pdf. I've also been watching all of the school of education videos on YouTube gives you an insight. Also this may sound harsh but as there isn't much available I've been looking at blogs and videos from other pgde students, Strathclyde has a lot, and Aberdeen. I'm not sure what your subject is but I reckon whatever it may be we'll need to look into essay writing at masters level and look into how to teach certain topics and how to control a class. Hope this helps :wink:

hi, are you going to University of Aberdeen for PGDE Secondary Spanish ? I am doing that one. I don't have French though and that is one of my worries, as I Know a lot of ML teachers have both... do you think I would be OK as a teacher who can only offer one of the 2 ? thanks !

Hi, no I'm going to Glasgow. As far as I know it gives you an advantage the more you have but I don't think it is something you should worry about because when you go for an interview they will look at your experience and teaching skills. I just happened to do both at uni. Worst case scenario you could start studying another language once you've mastered one the others are a piece of cake.

Apparently there are not a lot of pgde secondary students at Glasgow... so we'll probs bump into each other

Honestly I'm not sure, I've been out of Scotland for 7 years but if the uni accepted you then surely it's because it's ok. Also I think French continues to be the most widely taught mfl at schools, so seriously don't worry.

Oh wow, yeah I believe we will be working with a mix of different PGDE students throughout the course.

I'm was thinking there would be quite a lot of people. It might make it a better experience if the there's a smaller team of people. Maybe see you then :smile:

Sorry yeah I meant that there's the possibility that less people specialise in spanish as french is more popular. But, as I said I don't know much. :wink:

Hi on the off chance the same applies to you, when you accepted Glasgow did you hear anything? I haven't had an email or confirmation and no word on the pin for the student portal my Glasgow or whatever it's called. Strange, wondered if you'd heard back?
