If a member of the opposite sex seems to be going out of their way to look at you multiple times for no apparent reason ..it's usually down to physical attraction.

He could be staring off in a trance, just happens to be staring in OP's direction. Smiling when someone looks at you doesnt mean anything.. it could have been a friendly smile.

if each of these things were in isolation then yes i'd agree with you...

but when they're all happening multiple times like the OP described then it is most likely the guy fancies her.
