University course?

My friend needs help finding the right subject to do at university. He likes computer science, but really hates programming. He likes hardware stuff. He particularly likes the idea of building networks and working with servers. He also enjoys physics and would like to do a bit of it too (but not a full physics course), although he doesn't mind if he can't do any physics.
What university course is right for him?

ever considered electrical engineering?

If he's going to do something like that it'll probably be computer engineering, but he wants to look for something more to do with network and servers.

is he absolutely sure he will be interested in the same field in 4 years? it's a long time, my dad did maths at uni and works with servers and networks at microsoft, I don't think there are any unis that offer a degree in network and servers, the network design stuff that's there in A levels, I think that's a lot like discrete maths, I would encourage him to look into discrete maths, I think graph theory is used for network topology design and analysis, I would definitely ask him to look into discrete maths.

with regards to him hating programming, a lot of school CS instructors are absolute shite especially for programming, once they made me memorise unicode for no reason, there are squillions of other stories like this I would definitely uh look into online lectures about programming (CS50 by harvard is good), they didn't teach programming properly at all.

generally it's probably not a good idea to specialise that far this early, I would recommend going to a CS specific community and asking this question, they probably know more about it, my general recommendations for figuring out which course you wanna do is just do a bunch of MOOCs of all the courses you're thinking about doing, many courses are different at uni level.
