I want to move out but can’t

My parents aren’t willing to help ( despite being able to afford it ) and they won’t let me even get a job. I secretly applied to a university quite far away but the money for accommodation is £2,000 + than I receive ( and yes that is the cheapest and decent one I could find ). I’m unsure on what to do even to do bc they’re not going to help me financially and won’t let me work :/

Have you considered renting a room in a private houseshare or sharing a room with a friend?
This could be cheaper than student halls or a studio in a specialist students only complex.

As an undergrad, I found sites like SpareRoom very helpful.
I couldn't afford to move to student only accomodation.
How old are you?
You can have a look at social housing as an alternative if you need somewhere to stay for relatively cheap.

Once you are 18, your parents have no power to stop you from getting a job. You do not need their permission.

It’s easier said than done. Especially being from a conservative strict family, you have no freedom as a girl otherwise consequences arises.

Nope, the cheapest accommodation still leaves me £2,000 short

When you turn 18 just walk out of the house, no one can stop you by law, even at 16 I think you can leave without parents permission so if you are 16 or over leave. If you are under 16 just wait until you are 16 see if a family member can take you.

Thanks for the advice but this sounds so tone deaf. How am I supposed to walk out if I’ve got no money because my parents don’t allow me to work and because of that I have no experience so it’s harder to even get a job. All my family members are super conservative so they’re not going to let me crash at theirs because they don’t agree on girls moving out for uni.

Have you been in touch with Student Finance England?
Hi! Sorry to hear about your situation. Would it be possible for you to have a part time job during university? Even around 10-16 hours a week helps you earn some extra money to put towards accommodation, and you could maybe try to volunteer over summer to try gain some experience. I’m not sure if your university would have any available, but you could try applying for scholarships and grants to get some extra money for accommodation. Good luck! :smile:

They won't let you work. You could get a job without asking, have you done your GCSEs yet? That might help or are doing work experience at school, if and when you do, that could help with jobs and you could try asking if they have any jobs when you do work experience if you try hard they might say OK. You don't have to tell your family just say your seeing a friend when you are working. You could also go out with your friends knock on people's doors asking if people need their cars cleaned.

Wait, I just read the post properly and only just realised you are already 18. Why are you listening to your parents? you're 18 turn 19, you don't have a job, you still live with them and you are letting them dicate to you? You are 18, you could have just got a job without saying then moved out. You need a job to move out and at 18 years old your parents are right to not want to pay. Just apply without saying

Not really, just walk out of the house and apply for a job. What are they going to do? They can't stop you leaving the house. They could kick you out of course, but then they would have no way of influencing your life.
I got a job at 16, moved out with my friends who were my age and one was younger. I got a job and I was saving aside for a mortgage for a house.

There are some households where the parents or grandparents are very totalitarian and will not tolerate any disobedience from younger relatives.
Nor a slight divergence from their family traditions or religious rules.
Getting caught breaking with their traditions or trying to escape from the stranglehold of the family carries a high risk of extreme violence or other very harsh reprisals that are unlawful.
