Most vibrant cities in England besides London?

Birmingham.
Bristol.
Brighton.

Isn't birmingham highly commercialised and high streety? that's the impression i got when i went a few times

I'm considering where else i can move to for work, so far i prefer London the most as it has the most exciting things going on to me. But i'm considering a change and somewhere with lower living costs so i can have a better quality of life, but still with diverse communities and lots going on eg events, creative culture, parks.

I hear places like Manchester and Bristol are comparable?

I love Oxford, but I would never call it "vibrant", because to me that implies somewhere with nightlife, excitement, and fairly multicultural. Aside from student life which tends to be separated off, the city seems very middle-aged, lots of academics, and it's quite culturally homogenous. There's culture, but it's mostly farmers markets and bookshops - which I personally love, but I don't think it's "vibrant" like London is. If you're considering moving for work in particular, there's really not much to do for young professionals.

For somewhere vibrant and cultural, Bristol springs to mind, and I'd also say Glasgow (which has the benefit of being very cheap). I've heard good things about Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle, but haven't visited myself.
