Second degree - mature student

I’m 37 and my previous career was in Education (I have a BA hons in social science, PGCE in primary education and 2 MA diplomas in maths and specific learning difficulties).

I made a career move and now I am a gym owner, strength coach and pelvic health specialist. I want to gain a qualification in Physiotherapy in line with the rehabilitation work I already do (to expand my business and ability to work with others in an integrated practice manner). I’ve been declined a place on an MSc in Sports Medicine due to my previous education not being relevant to this course.

If I applied for an undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy would I be able to get a further student loan to support me as I need to continue to work in some capacity alongside studying.

Hello mate, What qualification did you get to say you’re a ‘pelvic health specialist?’ Usually you’d need qualification as a physio to then branch out into a specific area such as pelvic health.

I‘m a sports therapist (qualified 2018) returning to do undergrad Physiotherapy in Sept. You shouldn’t have any issues with student loan & maintenance grant. Plus, NHS training grant (£5k per year over 3 years).

As physio is an Allied Health Professional, all previous loans/grants are disregarded. You’ll be able to access student loan to pay for physio degree, maintenance loan plus you get a £5k NHS training grant per year for 3 years. You don’t have to pay this back.
