What is the difference between a lawyer and solicitor?

a lawyer in the UK is a general term for someone who works in law, including solicitors. This includes Legal Executives and Barristers, hence why it may be reported they are paid higher. A solicitor is (from what I can remember) an advisor, researcher and administrative role who can work to advise people in a firm or work with barristers to help advise them in a case.

I (think) in the USA, a lawyer is an actual job role, however here it's just the name of a bunch of job role.

What is the difference between a lawyer and a solicitor, I heard that a solicitor can go to court if required. However, why does a lawyer earn more than a solicitor if they don't go to court and have slightly less work to do in comparison to a solicitor. Please correct me if im wrong.

Solicitors are a subset of the category of lawyers. That is to say, all solicitors are lawyers, but not all lawyers are solicitors - in the UK there are also barristers who are lawyers as well, because the legal profession here (and in many other countries) is split.

Im sorry for asking so many questions but, why do lawyers sometimes earn more than solicitors and barristers. When I searched up family lawyers it was a lot higher than barristers and solicitors.

No, a lawyer in the UK refers to a solicitor or barrister. It's not a separate thing altogether, it's the category to which solicitors and barristers earn. Whatever that salary value was would've either a) been for the UK and been the amount solicitors and/or barristers earn in that area or b) would've been the income for those working as a lawyer in a country where the profession is not split e.g. the US, where salary scales may be wholly different (but also costs of living etc).
