I didnt take art gcse but want to do textiles a level

I havent chosen art as my gsce but instead took drama german and geography.However i have realised that my passion was for fashion design and i really want to do textiles for a levels.I have loved Haute Couture fashion and art ever since i was young and can draw and do digital art .The only reason why i didnt choose art at my school was because the subject at my school wasnt really appealing to me at the time i chose my gcse as i didnt believe it to be relevant to the textiles side.I was told that i could do a portfolio but i really dont know where to start and i just would like some help.

I did Media & Film for A-Levels but I think I can help you in terms of a portfolio because I had to do one for both of those subjects.

As for Art, I think if you explain to whoever is letting you pick your A-Levels that you have a passion for Art & Textiles (i.e. you love Haute Couture as you have said & fashion design - make sure to mention some of the latest designers just to rub it in their faces) then they have to let you in! As for a portfolio, all you really have to do is gather some pieces of art you've created together (if you haven't drawn or made anything do make sure to do it now!) and make sure you have a story behind each piece so it shows you have artistic direction.

Additionally, you might want to mention what you want to study at uni (even if you don't go uni) so they can see you mean long-term! For this just research on art, fashion, design courses in art universities that you might want to attend (i.e. UAL or Royal College of Arts) and then talk about what you might want to do as a career with it in the future (even if it isn't certain!).

This depends entirely on your school's own policy - you'll have to ask them.

Alternatively, you could do a one-year Foundation in Art & Design once you have left school.
This is the most common route to an Art / Design / Creative degree.

@Georgia Jayy has given you some good advice. If you decide to pursue a career in fashion, it's very helpful to start developing your creative skills and knowledge now. For a subject like Fashion Design, at UAL we will be looking for students who have a strong portfolio and have the potential to thrive on our courses. We would recommend students take either a specialised creative level 3 qualification or a foundation in Art and Design course (you need at least 1 A level to take our foundation course) before they apply to our degree courses.
