Very quiet here! I'll start.

What course are you applying for? Where are you applying from?

I am applying to Strathclyde engineering department. I am from Kilmarnock, 20 miles south of Glasgow. If I get into Strathclyde unsure if I will commute and keep my home comforts, save money and still be able to go to Killie footie matches (and watch them lose!) or stay in halls to remove commute time. I have just started S6 and I am studying AH Maths, AH Physics, crash Higher Geography and Higher PE.

Where else are you applying?

Also applying to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Heriot Watt.

How are you feeling about starting uni?

Less worried about starting uni, than the application process and getting an offer! I've exceeded the standard entry requirements with my Higher results (I am eligible for the minimum) so hopefully that gives me a good chance of a place. Now researching how to do a personal statement as I haven't had any support in school. This site has been really helpful with some hints and tips.

Been to virtual open days for a few unis and everything I hear makes me really excited about doing an engineering degree. Looking forward to meeting new people and forming friendships on and off the course, although a bit apprehensive about this to begin with.

Is Strathclyde accepting applicants from England for 2022 Undergraduate Entry?
I only ask cause I heard you weren't for 2021 entry and I couldn't find any explicit answer either way in the prospectus

Hi @AstroDelta no that's not true at all, we'll accept applicants from everywhere for 2022 entry - as we did for 2021. If you apply on time then we will consider you  Would you like to PM me so I can try and work out where there's been some confusion?

Feel free to introduce yourself here with which course you'd like to apply to so you can find others that might be starting around the same time!

Hope that helps!

Hi,

I am looking to apply for the Economics and Finance and/or the Economics and Spanish course at Strathclyde. The entry requirements for these courses are ABB - BBB. I am applying from England and my current A level subjects are Maths, Economics and Spanish. I would like to enquire if students generally are given offers with the entry grades or is the reality more that the grades should be higher than the entry requirement.

I would also like to enquire what the split between Economic and Spanish is for the Economics and Spanish course. Is it 50-50?

If I were to do the Economics and Finance course, does the university offer an option to continue to study Spanish either as part of the undergraduate degree or then my joining some society or club?

Lastly, please could you let me know generally how long after an application is made will there be a response on whether an offer is made or not?

Thanks.

Hey @Unister  So glad you're considering joining us! I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can.

I would like to enquire if students generally are given offers with the entry grades or is the reality more that the grades should be higher than the entry requirement.
When it comes to making offers, they will fall within the grade bracket given. So it's quite unlikely you'd receive an offer asking for higher than ABB or lower than BBB.

I would also like to enquire what the split between Economic and Spanish is for the Economics and Spanish course. Is it 50-50?
The Economics and Spanish course is taught mainly within the Business School, so the degree is more Business dominated- particularly in the early years. Your first year will see you studying a wide range of Business subjects as well as Spanish, and then as you progress through the degree you'll focus more on your specialisms. In your final year you'll have a relatively even split between the two though

If I were to do the Economics and Finance course, does the university offer an option to continue to study Spanish either as part of the undergraduate degree or then my joining some society or club?
Yes absolutely  You'll be able to pick up Spanish in your first year as an elective. You'll not be able to take it as a class following your 1st year, but you can certainly stay involved through clubs and societies. We have a Language Cafe that is open to everyone and the team behind that organise social events and meet ups to help with language practicing! There will be other clubs and societies you can join too.

Lastly, please could you let me know generally how long after an application is made will there be a response on whether an offer is made or not?
Unfortunately I can't give you a concrete answer with this one, sorry! We aim to process decisions as quickly as we can. Some of our faculties will wait until after the January deadline to process offers, while others will process them on a rolling basis so you'd receive a reply quicker. We receive a large volume of applications each year so in some cases it can take a while for offers to be made, but as long as you apply by the appropriate deadline we will give your application proper consideration and if we can make an offer, we will

Hope that helps a bit! Please do get in touch if I can help with anything else at all.

Thank you for all the information and help.
Does Strathclyde allow you to submit a second personal statement directly to the admissions office?I'm asking this for people who are applying to very different courses.
Hi, im thinking about applying to pharmacy at strathclyde for my fifth option, after medicine for my first 4. Is this a good idea? I have heard that since my personal statement will be medicine based, I am not likely to get into pharmacy as they will think I am not interested in it. Is this true? I am just looking for some advice surrounding this. Thanks!
I am looking to apply to pharmacy at strathclyde and had a question about filling in UCAS. Do I put in point of entry as 2nd year as this is the normal entry point into pharmacy at strathclyde? or do i put in point of entry as 1st year?

Hey Anon, this is absolutely fine. Our Pharmacy department are happy to consider applicants even when their statement reads as if it's for Medicine. We completely appreciate that your 5th option is a back up and using it for something like Pharmacy/Biomolecular Science etc is relevant enough so don't worry

Hello @EbeleNwosu  Our admissions teams will be reviewing applications as quickly as they can. It is quite a busy time at the university at the moment as we are in the process of organising our September intake, however most of this workload will be relaxing now and admissions teams will have more time on their hands. Have you received an offer/response yet? If all is completed on your application and we don't require further information from you I would say you should hear back relatively soon. If you've not heard anything by the end of next week send me a PM and I can look in to it for you :^_^:
