The Student Room Group

Feeling a bit lonely at uni.

I'm miles away from home. Flatmates ignoring me. Not much money. Course not even started yet.

Any advice?

Suggestions:
Going to freshers "alone" and seeing what happens.. unless freshers costs?

Joining University societies? 1 which is a hobby or an interest 2nd one can relate to your course.

Why are your flat mates ignoring you? Do you know the reason, that's quite rude off them as your all probably in the same boat.. Do you want to make the "first move" by maybe saying by starting the conversation oh "have you seen this meme" or asking them if they have any plans or maybe ask them "oh shall we set up a flatmate WhatsApp group to stay in touch"....(I know some of these are bit strange but I've not been in this situ before)

Once your course starts, don't by shy or introverted and try to your best to make friends with your course mates. It will be a big help when doing assignments and group work too.

See what's happening on campus which is "free".

See if University has any part time jobs maybe at the Student Union or check the University online Job Board so you can start earning money?

Video call or text your family, mates from your town, college and school see what they are up to stay connected with them...
Focus on your studies

Hey thanks for this. I'm going to freshers although it does cost a bit which is not good at all. I have all these spiraling costs. I want to do uni i really want to but I don't know howbit can be feesable i mean yes work may turn up but i will have literally next to nothing. I have £90 to my name till Wednesday ish but you know it all depends on student finance it totally depends on it. I'm thinking about emailing a closer to home uni to see if I can get in there but like i say see how my course goes and see whats what ill talk to them at student support.

Your course and course mates are a big part of the experience so don’t panic. Join a couple of well chosen societies where you can have fun and meet similarly mind people. It will be fine
I feel your pain. Are you in halls? Go to the common room or study room. Make a nice hot chocolate and take your laptop downstairs, you'll make friends for sure. Once your start your course it'll get better, I promise.
Same here. Haven't clicked with anyone

Thank you so much no I'm in a student Village. I just worry about being miles away from family without any money or anything

Plymouth Marjon University
Bless you. Your housemates sound horrible. Might be a blessing in disguise though: as one of the other commenters said - focus on your studies. I had a great time at uni and now I'm having to do a regain in my thirties 😂😂
