I keep hearing people use the word biweekly for two seperate meanings

Some people use it to mean twice a week and some mean every 2 weeks

I googled it and I get both answers.

Am I going mad?

Quite possibly

I second this.

I will never use biweekly to mean “every two weeks” - it’s “fortnight” all the way.
Biweekly is once every two weeks.

It would be less confusing if people just said fortnightly.
This thread just confusing me more, how do I delete it
It means both twice a week or once every two weeks.

i only find out recently that in amercia they dont know what fortnight mean lol
I signed up for a payment last year for something, and they said it was biweekly. I had to query it as well, because as far as I'm concerned, "every two weeks" is fortnightly in the UK.

They clarified that they did indeed mean "every two weeks", despite being British.

Frankly I find it stupid.

It means both twice a week or once every two weeks.

What’s the point of the word then if it has two meanings for a specified time period rofl.

Imagine someone says lets meet bi weekly and you are wondering whether to put a meeting every two weeks or twice a week.

Wouldn’t you say Eh? Once a fortnight or twice a week which is it?

If the meetings are dull assume they mean once a fortnight

The latter are, indeed, correct. Whereas the former would presumably consider Scott of the Antarctic to be the first known case of 'unipolar depression'.

words no longer have objective meaning, yet more liberal left nonsense &c. &c.
I've always known and used bi-weekly as meaning every two weeks as I got used to get paid bi-weekly and as much as I wished I got paid twice a week I didn't. If someone said to me something happens bi-weekly and meant twice a week I would be so confused

The Venice Biennial Arts Exhibition is held every 2 years, not twice a year...
