orgasm in sleep (female) - embarrassing

Is it weird that I occasionally get orgasms in my sleep? Apparently, it's normal but I've never heard of other girls getting it.

It happens quite strangely - I'll be asleep and dreaming but whilst I'm dreaming, I'll feel pleasure down *there* and it builds up and up and when I'm about to orgasm, that's when I actually wake up. But by the time I wake up, I'll be having an orgasm and I can't stop it. I share a room with my sister so I try really hard to not make a sound or to move but it's difficult because it feels intense. Once it's over, I instantly fall back asleep. The first time it happened which was earlier this year, I was convinced the whole thing was just a dream, but then it happened again and again. It doesn't happen a lot, just occasionally - the last time I experienced it was probably...two months ago?

I feel embarrassed talking to anyone about it and I feel like people will think of me weirdly. Do you think it is abnormal? I don't really know why I sometimes experience this, could anyone possibly suggest what might be causing it???? Does anyone else experience this?

It's sounds natural ok as boys gets this worse than females.
If you are having this more often / regular then talk to your doctor and see what they think causing it.

Sleep on your right side and not on your back
In order to prevent accidental stimulation and nocturnal orgasm during the night, sleep on your right side and wear loose-fitting clothes. Nocturnal orgasm occurs more frequently when you sleep on your back or abdomen.

Go for cold showers
Cold showers decrease genital sensitivity and may help prevent accidental stimulation during the night.

Avoid caffeine before going to bed
Avoid drinking any kind of caffeine before going to bed. Caffeine elevates sensitivity and irritability, which can cause erotic dreams. do you have an idea why I wake up when I am about to have an orgasm? I've only ever had an orgasm in my sleep once, the rest I woke up as I was about to have one.

Unfortunately I can't explain why you wake up when you are about to orgasm as it's similar I think to when people have a good dream and then suddenly wake up at the crucial part of it.

It's just how the body mind reacts I would say as only person can tell you that is obviously a doctor or specialist one.

If it continues on regular basis then I would perhaps seek some advise from your GP on it but you'll need to see how it goes okay. And maybe let me know if it happens again.
Are you at a certain young age by chance....!!!

Yeah I'm 18. It's been happening since I was 17. Maybe I'm just at that age lol.

Yeah I thought that you were at this sort of age with you asking of this , I think it's done to your pubicy still as still being going through some kind of it...... I put it down to you perhaps looking at boys or even girls and then you seen to be dreaming about it maybe ( could be wrong with this ok ),

As a midwife I take all health related issues as serious untill obviously person find out why it is happenening from a specialist doctor or your GP.


I don't doubt you at all ok.

No problems trying to help you and do see your GP if it continues okay.
