That depends on the reason, and whether you would be able to re-join the course a month later and catch up on everything you've missed. Things like deadlines might be the main issue.
I think this would be a discussion you'd have to have with your university. I would advise speaking to your personal tutor about this as they will know the ins and outs of your university's policy regarding this.
No you cannot suspect your studies for 1 month. Unis can grant 'academic suspension' for a year but not for a month. Think about it, if you stop your studies for a few weeks then you will be playing catch up wrt assignments and exams and this will impact your S2 studies - when again you will ask for a 1 months suspension. Its easier for the uni to defer you for a year.
