You can shorten google links by removing everything after the & symbol. I don't actually know what the random letters do, probably some cookies.

Yeah, it works for amazon links too. If you find a random product there, remove everything from ref= and it will still work.
Poor OP, their thread is now about url's. I don't actually have an answer to their question.
