Student activism at Bristol

Ooh fascinating, thank you! Just out of curiosity - is the Conservative Association anything like the current Party? And is the university more left or right wing?

I was looking at the societies that Bristol has and saw there are some dedicated to student activism (like the Amnesty one) and wanted to know if activism is encouraged by the university, or at least not looked down upon

I come from a country where student activism hurts your reputation, and is looked down on by universities and employers despite many universities having active SUs. So I want to know more about this before mentioning it in my scholarship application

I like the idea of putting them in museums with plaques tbh, so you can read about the bad aspects as well. A statue by itself is a commemorative/celebratory monument, but for slave traders and the like you should know about their darker side while acknowledging their contributions

Yeah I agree. The other outcome that happened was just a bit immature from people who don't respect history - coming from a minority (cause that matters)

But yeah, activism is pretty supported in Bristol itself. The city is pretty left wing and is usually the hub for activism in the UK, let alone the uni. Now whether you grow to get annoyed by it, I will leave that to you, but it isn't looked down upon and is usually supported! Either way, no matter your political opinion you should be fine within the uni as long as of course you don't go rogue!
