Computer science question j277

I think i know why data is stored in binary format because the computer system is designed to process data like that for eg a 0 represents off or (no) and 1 means yes so the switch would be on so data needs to be processed as 0s and 1s for example.
how would i answer this question in a compact way (gcse) ?
