A-level Politics Study Group 2022

Welcome to the A-level Politics Study Group! :woo:

This is where you can chat to others students taking your subject as you prepare for your A-level exams this summer

What can I do in these groups?

Almost anything! If you need help with a certain topic, want to rant about something you are struggling with or just want to support other students who are trying to prepare, this is the place for you. We want these to be a useful place for everyone no matter what you're looking for!

What can't I do in these groups?

Asking or offering copyright papers is against our site rules, and so is taking conversation off-site to do these things. Any posts doing this will be removed. That's the only rule :naughty:

Ice Breaker questions if you want to use them!

> What exam board are you on? (Vote in the poll as well!)

> What bits of the course are you feeling confident with?

> What areas are you struggling with a little?

> Have you found any resources online that have helped you prepare?

Hello! I don't know if anyone else will join this but might as well start here.

I'm on the AQA spec and I actually like the advanced info they've given for paper 1 and 2. Paper 3 doesn't help much, other than the fact that they're telling us that conservatism basically has the most weight now
hi  I'm on the edexcel spec and really enjoying paper 3 (global) but we haven't acc finished the course yet so I'm panicking a bit !!

I like how they've taken out liberalism for paper 1 and left us w conservatism and socialism as they're my strongest anyway. Not too happy that referendums and voting behaviour have gone but they've left the media in. Quite happy they've cut most of the power topic out of paper 3 as it limits the question options but I wish they cut some of the regionalism/EU topic too :frown:

basically found just writing essays helps me revise, as boring as it sounds. my timing is awful so it's the only way I can get better I suppose !!

I'm also on the Edexcel spec, but I'm currently doing AS; do you have any tips on how to revise? I'm struggling a little bit to be honest!

hey, if I'm being honest the only way I've found useful for revising is planning essay questions and writing them in timed conditions with the plan in front of me (gradually making the plan less detailed), for the ideologies we were given packs that included tables that helped us compare the thinkers and their views on human nature, state, society and the economy so that's helped get the info in imo - sorry I'm struggling myself on revising with politics but this seems to be the most effective way !

Spoiler

That's interesting bc (on the AQA spec), we have a lot of stuff gotten rid of for papers 1 and 2 (UK and comparison to US). We have voting behaviour in our paper 2 for the US side I think and we have media and elections as well. Sadly, the only thing they told us for a paper 3 was that our source would be on conservatism

Edit: I mean about the changes to the Edexcel spec lol

Hi I'm a private candidate doing exams this year, I do US instead of global. How are you finding planning essay q's? as a private candidate I don't have access to many resources so I'm having to try and come up with questions to plan so if you have any q's that you wouldn't mind sharing I would really appreciate that. <3

For AQA, the advanced info has basically given us this;
9 marker on socialism
9 marker on liberalism
extract conservatism
25 marker on whatever other ideology you studied (for my sixth form, its nationalism)

i think this really helps! Because now I know that for socialism and liberalism, I’ll only need to revise small sections such as 3 key thinkers and their views on the areas eg. economy, state, etc
not sure how helpful this would be for you but hope it does help!

If you PM me your socials, I can send you example questions from my textbooks for each topic in US?

Yeah it def helps - some of the others in the class were saying similar things in that for socialism and liberalism, we should be fine if we revise three thinkers really well

I do nationalism as well for the 25 marker
predictions on 25 markers?

I'm hoping that it's parliament and scrutiny. It could be on the judiciary but idk. We'll just have to see tbh

elections was a 25 marker in the 2020 paper so idk if they will have it as an essay this year since we have to do the media in relation to elections
