How do we know there is no horizontal acceleration? (projectiles)

Howdy , could someone give an explanation for part c. I've highlighted it.

I just don't understand how we know there is no horizontal acceleration.

Thanks

There are no horizontal forces, so no horizontal acceleration.
The only force is gravity which acts vertically and so is independent from horizontal motion.
