Is going to a Maths School better than going to a normal college?

No - do you mean one with specialist status? If so that funding ended about 10 years ago ...

I am in year 13 at a maths school atm, and moving here is one of the best decisions I have made. I've just been speaking to my friend, and he said that maths school had been the best two years of his life, and I'm pretty sure if I asked anyone at school they would say the same thing. I would say, only apply if you really like maths, because you will be in an environment full of people who love it and are super good at it (like I'm sure you are). The dynamics are similar to any other school environment; people are sociable, and meet up outside of school go to parties etc., so don't be worried about missing out on sixth-form/college life because you will find a load of people very similar to you and it is very easy to make friends. There is also a big emphasis on everything not-maths too, like wellbeing and culture (for example, recently we went on a (free) school trip to see an England football game at Wembley!) If you have any specific questions just lmk!!

Existing maths schools get £350,000 a year additional funding from the government. I think there are only five or six in the country and the two that I know about are excellent.

Their results are no better than ours ... the OP was not clear which school they were referring to. A lot of schools advertise themselved as 'specialists' when they aren't any more.

I'm guessing you teach at one of the best performing schools in the country then because maths school's results are some of the best in the country. Kings College Maths School for example was number 1 for A Level results in 2019.

Given their entry requirements and additional funding they should get amazing results - we accept grade 7 at GCSE ...

We do pretty well without all those 'advantages'

no I didn't apply because I didn't want to miss a week of school lol. ICLMS is another maths school opening in London, its run by Imperial college london and woodhouse college.

Yes I know. But your first two posts were so negative about maths schools and telling students not to go. This makes no sense to me.

They aren't better though and do not suit everyone. They don't give an advantage as your results are judged against the school you go to..

I agree with what @Muttley79 is saying but where I live I don't really have any secondary schools that produce results like this. But yes, i suppose its not the best for everyone.

No - there are schools I know that refer to themselves as 'Maths schools' but they aren't these - they are just the old specialist schools.
