given that sin x cos y =3 cos x sin y express tan x in terms of tan y

Hint: tan(u) = sin(u) / cos(u). Try rearranging the given expression with that in mind.
What is the relationship between tan, sin and cos?

tan theta = sin theta divide by cos theta, im stuck on how the markscheme shows sin x cos y / cos x cos y= 3 cos x sin y /cos x cos y

Ignore the mark scheme and try the question with the hints.
Cancel terms. Identical terms just gives 1 and remember the tan x = sin x/cos x relationship.

I tell my students NOT to look at markschemes but just keep trying - often struggling with a question and then solving it is so much better for your progress.
