a level options (cant choose)

hii, basically i applied for rs,psychology,history and politics however i wanted to change rs with eitehr sociology or economics.

also i was thinking to change politics to maths (mostly cus i think ill end up hating it since i find it boring now) if i do economics so it opens more career paths since idk what i wanna do in uni/life

so pls help should i do sociology,history,psychology,politics
or maths,economics, history, psychology

Firstly, you should just do 3. Secondly, unless you want to do economics, psychology, or a STEM subject at uni, then it doesn't really matter which combination you take as the vast majority of humanities and social sciences degrees otherwise accept any combination of subjects. If you do want to do economics at uni then you need to take A-level Maths (FM would be desirable for some courses, functionally required for LSE). Also if you want to do psychology you would really need a maths/science subject alongside psychology.

If you already find a subject boring though then that's probably a good sign to not take it at A-level. Although sometimes things you didn't like at GCSE may eventually be more appealing, it's a bit of a gamble and since politics isn't required as a prerequisite for any degree programme, no real benefit/reason to take it specifically unless you genuinely are interested in it!

And, as above, no UK Uni requires 4 A levels - and you risk all your grades by doing this. AAA will always look better than ABBB.

This is fairly normal and is a great way of keeping options open a bit longer and you drop the weakest. At our school you can drop one at Christmas or do an AS.

No course requires Economics, your options are most open with Maths, Psychology and History from the ones you have listed.

hi i just finished y13 this year and did computer science (until October half term), maths, history, and politics. For me I really regret doing maths and should’ve stuck with comp sci but that’s all in the past. I found maths really difficult and very boring (the course is split up into pure (maths for the sake of maths), statistics (you are given a scenario and have to use a statistic technique you’re learnt), and mechanics (physics learning about forces and friction which I found the hardest). I really enjoyed politics and I did AQA which is UK, US and comparative politics, and political ideas (liberalism, socialism, conservatism, feminism). But the choice is yours and choose something you’ll enjoy for the next two years.

i cant speak for any of the other topics but i’m doing sociology and while i absolutely love it it is really difficult and theres a ton of content to remember, it’s the hardest one im doing. a lot of the people in my class hate the subject and it makes the work even harder, so it might be worth to look into the topics you would be doing more and see if you think it would interest you at all first, and take into account the amount of content to revise & essay writing.

maths is really good for keeping your options open for pretty much anything at uni so i’d recommend doing that if you want to!

i would not at all suggest doing 4 a levels. i know so many that do and are really really struggling, it’s completely pointless since no uni wants 4 and it risks your other grades. however, if you really find that you can’t pick a subject, you have the option to take 4 and then either drop your least favourite after year 12 completely or do the as exam at the end of y12 and then drop it so you still get a bit of a qualification, if you really want :smile:

All of those subjects are fine and will get you into a range of different courses at uni.
If you think that politics is boring now, then i wouldnt do it at a-level, as you will probably still find it boring. You may regret it and and possibly end up hating the subject.

If you really wanna do 4 then go for it but remeber you can always drop one later if you need to, trust me 4 a-levels is A LOT!
I did both psychology and sociology and theres a lot of crossover so really unless you desperatly want to do both you canm just do one and youll get the gist of it.
if you dont think youll enjoy politics, i can not stress this enough, DO NOT DO IT! but if you really want to get at least one qualification for that subject just do AS and you can come back and do A2 later if need be
Pick at least one subject you know you'll enjoy and put your heart and soul into it becasue no matter how much you think you need a subject it wont make the exams any less painful.
And dont stress too much about it because colleges do courses for all sorts of subjects no matter how old you are, ifyou decide later in life that you made the wrong choice you can always go back and redo, nothing is set in stone love!
