The best pop vocalist at the moment is Leona Lewis, in terms of ability. Mariah has lost it, Whitney has lost it, and Christina over-sings everything.

Too many people posting the names of people who use autotune.

I can't give a definitive answer, but the best singer in the world is very likely to be an operatic singer that very few people have heard of - someone who spends weeks nailing a few lines in one song just to get it absolutely pitch and tone perfect.

Well here's my vote anyway:

The guy doing the clean vocals on top of the original song...although helge, the guy doing the harsh vocals, is excellent at what he does too.

Kerry Ellis hands down for me has the most powerful yet effortless voice currently. She is fabulous.

I also think Idina Menzel, Rachel Tucker, Amber Reily and Lea Michele have fabulous lungs on them too

If a singer needs autotune then he/she doesn't count.

Male: Freddie Mercury, Ronnie James Dio, Steve Wilson
Female: Anneke Van Giersbergen, Charlotte Wessels.

I wouldn't really call it singing per se, but for extreme metal vocalists I would say Azathoth from Dark Fortress and Mikael Akerfeldt (no idea how to spell his name) from Bloodbath are really good.

For pure power Ronnie James Dio wins everyday. But for me it is between the two definitely

A song from 3 of the bands he was in.

when i tried to spell it the normal way it wouldn't work lol

yeah I rate Bono, U2 are my favourite band so there's probably a hint of bias, but his voice still sounds good after 30 years and counting

Pound for pound it has to be Justin Bieber?
If you disagree with that, you'll just end up looking stupid.

Hmm. Possibly Eric Nally, the lead singer in Foxy Shazam. He's really good. But not many people have heard of them. Go listen now.

By the way, I'm judging based on their un-computer-modified voices. Not by how well they can sing with the aid of autotuning.

Agree with brucey, also it's definitely not as good as it was, bit squeaky. Annie Lennox's voice is awesome, and I really like Eddie Vedder's.
