I'd ring them up and ask, they would know best. It depends if it was like 10 years ago, or 2 years ago I would think.

Thanks, well I've heard that under the new DRB system you don't need to declare youth reprimands

It's not really about declaring yourself though, when they order that CRB check, EVERYTHING is on there

That's what I use to think, however this system changed to the DRB check. I read online and heard in places that this filters older stuff out, as long as it's not to serious; i.e child abuse

I applied the first day it was open, paid the deposit on the 6th aug, had my interview on the 17th september, 1st oct I was RTP, then on the 3rd I had an email asking for an interview, and then I had the interview on the 9th and I was placed the same day so that's from applying to placement was about 64(?)days, so just over 2 months

Something I've noticed during this process, is that US Christian camps seem to only want staff that are super religiously Christian, practising everything in the bible and having all the right conservative views. For example, I already have plenty of experience working for Christian children summer camps in the UK through being a member of the Girls Brigade, but I'm not really that strongly Christian, which I think is what got me rejected from a Christian camp that I was in touch with through Americamp. In the Skype interview, as well as the usual questions about my experience with kids and stuff, they were also asking me all these questions, like what do I think of premarital sex, oral sex, drugs, underage drinking, porn, homosexuality, etc . I answered honestly (that I generally don't find most of these things wrong except for underage drinking and drugs), but oh well, I'd rather not have to pretend to be something I'm not.

Whereas, Jewish camps on their websites say they don't mind whether their staff is Jewish or not, just as long as they respect the culture and religion and are willing to get involved as much as possible. There are also quite a lot of Jewish camps going to the Americamp camp fair this weekend, whereas there are no Christian ones going (well, unless YMCA counts?). Just something interesting I've noticed :beard:. So I've decided it would be best if I just stick to applying for Jewish or non-religious camps :yep:

It could just be the camp that you happened to be interviewed with. I have a few friends who worked at Xian camps, but don't really have their own faith and the camps were fine with that. At my camp, they do prefer you to have your own faith but we had quite a few staff who weren't Xians as well

But you are right about Jewish camps One of the CA staff worked at a Jewish camp and he wasn't Jewish but he didn't realise the camp was Jewish until 3 weeks into camp!! XD

Hope you have a good summer wherever you go!! And hope that helps!

Ah ok, thanks . I have camp fair tomorrow, so I'm really hoping to get placed there . I'm a lil nervous but more excited, especially as I think it'd be easier being interviewed face to face rather than by Skype or phone. So hopefully this time in 24 hours, I'll have a US job for this summer

I really wanted to go to camp but I've left it so late.. Don't have the first clue what to do for a video and I just feel like I have no skills I could put down. Maybe that's a lack of confidence which I would need to work on aswell. So my plan is to work on next years application and make sure I will get picked. I've signed up to volunteer at the girlguides which I hope will give me some good experience

I honestly don't have anything like arts and crafts that I could put down. I volunteered at a befriending group for a little while and for the riding for the disabled association untill I had to have a operation. I'm hoping to go back very soon. I wouldn't say I was very good at sports or anything like that but it doesn't mean I wouldn't give everything a go. I'd try almost everything it's just I can't think of anything in particular that I could teach the kids.

That's why I thought girlguides would be good.. I would be doing different activities that I maybe wouldn't normally do and also obviously gives me child care experience. Well if they don't close too till that point then i might still have a chance!

I noticed camp America are coming to edinburgh next week. Can you still go even if you haven't completed a application?

Yes you can It's probably best if you have completed most of it though, just so camps can have an idea of who you are, take a look through their activity list, you might be surprised how many you've actually done!!
