    General trends aren't that good at telling you how a specific individual will vote but they are very good at letting you put an estimate on how a group will vote. That's the nature of statistics.

    Most polls really weren't that far off the end result. It's just that small shifts make a big difference to the result. The exit poll was very accurate.

    Also who's to say the polls weren't correct (more or less, or at least within margin of error) when they were conducted. It's not inconceivable that the swing to the Tories was very, very late.
