Well, he does propose the worst of capitalism to achieve socialist ends (which is the rank opposite of the Nordic utopias, ironically) - printing money to pay for infrastructure? Really? :slap:

    I am .

No, you're not, but then we don't talk much about politics, so we never know. I'm referring to both the people and the ideology, to an extent. Though I suppose it depends on what you mean by ideology, since 'the left' is an umbrella term covering several. There's a wonderful book by Nick Cohen called What's Left? that sums up my feelings about the left.

The great irony of the Lib Dems is that they prove, despite their commitment to PR, and with each passing election, that the British people are too immature for a voting system that would make permanent coalition government inevitable. :moon:

On the capitalism front, elaborate? :holmes: In terms of Corbyn's "people's QE," I'm sure I don't have to give you the token line of long-term, the idea is it will feed back into the economy and so on -- whether you agree with it is another matter. :hmmmm2: (See -- correct code this time. :hand:)

Don't be . We love you in spite of your commitment issues and grammar Nazi tendencies. :console:

As I've told you before, I don't see how disagreeing with someone politically always has to mean you can't find them likeable as a person regardless. And good point -- okay, to ask another question, what parts of the 'left' ideology is it that you find dislikable?

Upon an Amazon search, that book actually looks quite interesting. :beard: It's now currently sitting in my Kindle library.

Immature or ill-informed? :holmes: The British public know what they are told -- for the majority, they won't seek out their own answers (which yes, I suppose they can be faulted for to an extent), so if they're given a perspective which focuses heavily on the negative and not so much on the positive, they are likely to take a view that follows a vein similar. I do think the Lib Dems received a harsher time than they deserved, though.

Yeah I do, I just spoke to her an hour or so ago on WA. She told me to post that as her contribution to this thread
And yeah she's OK, just busy with revision, exams etc.
I couldn't understand more than a few words (the English ones ), but I'll assume it was an entertaining read. :yep:

That's good to know, though! I was wondering how she was doing. Hope her revision and exams are going well! :yep:

Well, he doesn't actually propose to replace capitalism with socialism - rather, he wants to work within the current system. As for QE - it's a bad idea, full stop. His rationale seems to be: 'we do it anyway to benefit the rich, so let's now do it to benefit everyone.' Noble, but it assumes that the only thing wrong with QE is that it benefits the wrong people - I disagree.

Well done on the code. Here's a trophy: :king1:

I always knew you loved me, really. :smug:

It doesn't always have to mean that, no, but the issues on which the left is wrong are too important to me for it to be simple disagreement. As Hitchens would have said (paraphrasing): You try to do away with free expression, it's not a disagreement anymore. It's a fight.

And that's before we get to the foaming-at-the-mouth anti-Americanism, 'any enemy of capitalism is my friend' mentality (even Marx would have known better than to side with feudalists in opposition to capitalists), appeasement of religious fundamentalism, rationalisation of terror attacks as a justified revenge for imperialism, etc.

    Happy reading.

Immature, I'd say. One thing that I think people don't often realise is that six-party democracy is often no more democratic than two-party democracy, since policy decisions are reduced to backroom deals and trade-offs. The trouble is that this is the source of people's anger towards the LDs, but they don't know it, so they keep irrationally pushing for PR on a separate front, not realising that it will produce an even worse edition of what they didn't like about the Con-Lib coalition, namely compromise on policy. They expect to be able to vote on the basis of one or two issues and not have them be traded for ministerial positions and fancy cars the day after an election. That is not possible under PR, with which they are so infatuated.
