You, and many others in this thread don't seem to understand what the words underrated or overrated mean. It doesn't mean simply mean something is better or worse. I could say apples are overrated and bananas underrated. That doesn't mean I prefer bananas to apples. Just that general opinion rates them incorrectly.
We do get it, he just didnt back it up with good reasons why some unis like LSE are behind KCL. General consensus believes that KCL is a great uni, it some of the stuff he comes up with that makes his point laughable.

I never said that in the first place you.

I told him this exact same thing but he still didn't get it.

Saying LSE is overrated doesn't mean KCL is better @Dnkz7 you Putz
This is what I don't get about you, it's overrated for what? have you been there? do you know what people say about their courses. If the answer is no - what is your point in the first place?

Erm yes I have been to the school, It's like a walking distance away from KCL, my cousins and tons of my friends go there and they said that the school isn't what its hyped up to be.

It's just an expensive institution with a lot of Rah's and Students who wear suits to lectures with lecturers who barely have time for the students whilst they give them a ton of work-load, and there being little or no social activities in the school because everyone is too focused on getting a city job in London, Singapore or Qatar.

And that's not even why it's overrated to me, I feel it's overrated because they teach about 15 different courses, are especially amazing in about 5 of those and just good at the other 10, yet people call it an alternative to Oxford, who teach about 40 courses and are amazing in about 30

Not all of them, there will be a minority who are like that. Overall it is a international school so some of them will have their own cliques and whatever and may behave in a different manner to what you and me know.

KCL is also superior to Sheffield.
I thought this thread was about what unis you believed to be over-rated/under-rated? Not which is superior?

I am going to study politics in Sheffield come September, so I am biased, but to which university is 'superior' unless you're talking Oxbridge or if a university is specialised to your subject eg Imp/LSE (Like mine), the difference between most top 30 UK universities is negligible. And at the merit of your performance and how you spend your time at university will ultimately be more important post-graduation, thus 'the real world' , not whether you studied at KCL or Sheffield.

I personally would hate to study in London, unless it was LSE. My predicted grades were ABB so I didn't think of applying but got A*AA. Had some friends/teachers that told me I should go through Adjustment and consider Bristol/Warwick/Exter because their entry requirements were one grade higher which obviously meant they were superior? Needless to say, I laughed at them all, they've obviously spent far too much time on here.

Reading through your comments is hilarious, you're actually being elitist about studying at KCL? And your opinions being heavily weighted on league tables is stupid. Like I said before the difference between the two is negligible. The pol course specifically though Sheffield is ranked 8th and KCL 15th, Sheffield also has better graduate prospects, one of the best student satisfaction in the country (never known anyone to dislike studying there), and their research scores second to LSE above Oxbridge - whereas KCL ranks 23rd, bless.

Look, when I say a University is superior to another university, I am saying that the general outlook over the Uk and the world is that when comparing two Universities, one uni is better than the other.

Which is the case here with KCL and Sheffield. KCL is superior to Sheffield. This was not my original point, nor am I saying Sheffield isn't a top university, because it is. But saying that KCL is a better uni than Sheffield doesn't mean I'm saying the uni is on par with the University of East london or bolton. It's just my opinion which usuallyleans towards the truth.

Never did I claim that entry requirements makes a University better, it can be used as an argument, but it not the be all and end all in terms of comparisons, and I'm shocked that you couldn't use adjustment but maybe your destiny was always to study at Sheffield and do big things there. Only time can tell.

No I am not being elitist about attending KCL because never did I ever mention it anywhere on the opening title or my posts on the first page that "Hey everyone look at me I'm going to King's college London you're all dumb and I'm smart" I just asked for people's opinions on which Universities they feel are better than people make it out to be. Trolls and people who probably got rejected from the Uni hijacked this thread and just started calling me everything under the sun because I dared to call the Harvard alternative LSE overrated.

And exactly what research score are you talking about that KCL ranks 23rd in because the research ranking source that I use, the Research excellence framework (REF) rated King's as the top research university in the UK in 2014 and ranked it top 6 overall rising from 22nd in 2008

I agree with you about the international outlook being strong at KCL, but London is a major capital player on the world table not just in the UK, therefore it's going to attract a lot of international students. That doesn't mean Northern universities are less 'superior', Infact, Manchester would surpass Kings tbh. IMO Sheffield is 100% on par with KCL in that aspect also. Im sorry but you can't compare KCL to IMP or LSE. It is behind UCL and above Queen Mary respectively.

I think when you started to make comparisons between different universities you allowed the comments to follow.. could have just stated what universities where underrated/overrated and left it at that.

And the same one you use, but course specific for politics. As stated above..

I never said that Northern universities are less superior and just because KCL is located in London doesn't mean that's the reason it's highly rated, it's history, ground-breaking research and many other things make them what they are, and Manchester are not a better University than KCL, if anything it's either KCL is better or they are equal. Both are better than Sheffield.

I'm an argumentative person by nature and always try to present my points whenever I'm scrutinized. And fair enough their political research is low, but you should check up their Nursing and Biomedical science research ranking which King's is 1st for both in the UK

It certainly doesn't hinder it being located there though does it. Tbf I don't think KCL is underrated or overrated, it places well in both national and international tables. I think again, you are trying to separates universities that have strong parts about them and equally lesser so parts. To say that Kings and Manchester are indefinitely better than Sheffield is narrow-minded, and someone who prefers Sheffield could get a 1st in that environment but attend the other two and end up getting a 2:2. So people should choose where they feel most comfortable because your career prospects aren't going to differ from attending any strong university - degree classification and relevant experience are more important when discussing - do you not agree?

I don't doubt they aren't for a second! But saying KCL is better than LSE will never be public consensus and rightly so, thats why i made my point about Sheffield, because i know Sheffield does not compare to LSE but is on much more of a comparable level to KCL.

Anyway, I guess we should just agree to disagree on this one? And i wish you the best of luck in your studies!

Yes, at the end of the day a person should just attend their university because they are comfortable with it, the status of the University should ideally come after you have a guaranteed place and you should work hard for your 1st class degree, I also wish you the best.

    Have a nice day.

    Mate its overrated.

Not the same guy. And I know you have both 0 reason to believe me. But I'll say it anyway. Last year, my friend got an offer for BEng electric engineering at Kings. His AS grades were CEE. I'm not even joking. He didn't want to apply. He knew his grades were bad and wanted lesser unis. But he had one of those strict asian parents that wanted a decent london uni. The entry requirements are AAB. He got accepted after roughly 3 weeks.

This year, a girl in our neighboring school missed her offer from Kings by 5 grades and they let her in anyway. Can't remember the course but it was a humanity.
I'm assuming they inflate their grades because they're a good uni with london in their name so they want people to think they have high entry standards and are really prestigious.
LSE wouldn't do something like that in a million years. I don't know why you're still arguing with people saying KCL is comparable. Not only is it wrong, but it's derailing your own thread.

The guy thinks its one of the best unis in the country because of an international ranking that also factors in things like "arts and culture. In addition to how often the institution does charity work. It even punishes unis with a high student:staff ratio. Which is unavoidable with unis that can afford to accommodate larger amount of people. After a quick read through this thread, I don't think there's any reasoning with him.
I second this. I know people who got BBD in their AS and got accepted to Kings with BBB at A2

Haha he doesn't understand how strong of a word "superior" is. Belittling other institutions for no reason

Oh please, Queen Mary is probably the worst RG uni out there. Piss poor facilities, a trash Engineering department, a mediocre library, ridiculously awful location surrounded by dirty chicken restaurants and probably the worst lecturers in London.
Just because Queen Mary is at a not so nice location doesn't mean the university is bad.
If you were going to queen Mary, you wouldn't be saying that...

After reading the bs above about KCL, my views are that is neither overrated or underrated and it’s also not in the same tier as UCL, LSE etc as some have suggested. It’s probably at the same level with Manchester, Birmingham, St Andrews when you compare the whole package. Though King’s being in London does give it an advantage with jobs, internships, research etc. The interesting thing though is if you put unis the likes of Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham etc in London and say Kings was in the middle of nowhere like St Andrews most would say including myself that the likes of Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham etc are better. The point I’m trying to get across is that KCL is well rated but being in London, part of the golden triangle just gives it a sense of prestige compared to Manchester etc which is not.

What that person wrote didn't even merit a response from the prince of all Saiyans, due to the deplorable sentence and grammatical structure, along with an asinine conclusion.
