How do you get 2 marks on the LH question? I write ovulation at 14 days and the fact that it stimulates progesterone

    Posted from TSR Mobile
Yeah LH causes ovulation and thus the releasing of eggs forming the corpus lutetium which stimulates the production of progesterone.

I did 10a and wrote about:

Nervous response: thermoregulation, osmoreceptors, heart rate control (for enzymes)
    Plants: tropisms and growth factors
Very briefly described taxis and kinesis
    CO2 control for enzymes.
I think i focused too much on what they do rather than the importance of doing it.

I accidentally wrote that the hypothalamus controls heart rate rather than the medulla. Does anyone know how many marks I will have lost. I'm so annoyed with myself!
Well u did more internal stuff and if u did enough detail then i dont see why u wont get full marks for breadth and relevance and maybe 10-13 for content

    Ye
The question was asking for the molecule that breaks down atp, ie by hydrolysis therefore it is water, it did not ask for the enzyme that catalyses this breakdown which is atpase.

The biggest topic you could talk about was homeostasis:
    1- Temperature control
    2- blood pH levels
    3- Glucose regulation
    4- Mineral ions concentrations
    5- Water content
    6- Oestrous Cycle

The external factors I came up with were Taxis, Kinesis and Tropism.

I think you'll be fine if you talked in depth about the Internal environment and managed to link it to it's importance ....

ok but let's say you went into like a page worth of good scientific detail on one point and only vaguely described another point...+ you had a plan with 2 more topics on there that you didn't have time to do...that's half an essay so does that mean you can only get 4 marks or something on scientific content? pls...

Really because I heard that this year they were going to mark it different but you never know and tbh I prefer getting marks without all of the content
where did you hear that from? it wouldn't be fair ngl

I had a whole paragraph on off-spec stuff that was relevant so as long as the detail is true then I should get the 4 off-spec marks regardless of the rest of my essay...

    I feel like I misinterpreted essay B after reading people's comments -
I wrote about he importance in cell devision about proto oncogenes, tumour suppressor genes and their mutations.
Then the importance of reproduction I wrote about mutation in gametes, random assortment, random segregation, crossing over and random fusion of gametes to produce variation for selection.
The importance of development I wrote about differentiation/cells becoming specialised for their function in a multicellular organism (eg the pancreas is a organ and has islets of langerhan but it also contains enzyme secreting cells for digestion.
Then importance of development in other organisms I talked about how meristem in plants don't differentate and remain totipotent and this is the basis of asexual reproduction.

I feel like my easay is not even close to anyone else's - have I misinterpreted?
Hey I did the exact same thing as you I feel as if I read it completely wrong now I spoke about: Oestrous cycle, cell division, mitosis, genetic variation, antibiotics, mutations, cancer, protein synthesis. I am so gutted I actually cried about it BUT, I have looked at other peoples answers and some of our answers (from your post) is similar or the same. Yes this is 25 marks but surely we have to get some marks for these answers they cannot be 100% irrelevant. I am so so annoyed with myself, other people in my class spoke about ecology for this question

I'm also looking at all biol 5 mark scheme essay answers; there are like 18 different points involved in this answer so who knows maybe we've just answered the unpopular ones but still got it right :/ :/

You should always get off spec marks regardless of the your overall content mark
My teacher marks these, and no you only get off spec marks after getting 14 for content.

I thought it was only related to humans though! Not all organisms (except for the "development" part)?
I don't know. I saw the first question and knew I could write about homeostasis until the cows came home but I thought essay B really broke it down nicely into three sections and you could see where the breath marks would have come from?
That was my logic - kind of regretting this now though

I thought with ratios you couldnt round up long ass decimals. You can only have decimals if its liek 2.50:1 or 13.25:2 or something so I left my answer pretty big, I only divide by 2 by the ratio.

I initially got the 1:2. something and the other way round 1:0.44 or something but decided to stick with the ratio divided by 2

Same here I wrote about the human cycle and stuff for like 95% and then read the word organisms too late with like 5 minutes to go so I just stuck in antibiotics and mutation. I thought it was nicely separated but the more I read over it the more I think I've made such a stupid mistake..

Really? That's so harsh, surely not? Also I think you mean 12/16 as 4 marks are for off spec stuff.

I heard you got two extra marks automatically if you put one thing off spec.

    As long u simplified from 118:52 ...
Also it seems like ur ratio was the otHer way round.
