I thought the chances of anyone dropping out at all at this stage are pretty slim but people's situations change so you never know I selected 6 out of the 10 positions available and this was my third choice.
Gives me a bit of hope thanks, so being on reserve can really get you any position just have to be patient

So do each speciality study at the same Uni? E.g. everyone for Resp/Sleep at Manchester Met?

On the breakdown of Universities it shows both Newcastle and Manchester offering the MSc for Resp/Sleep, any idea if we're split between the two or if they just haven't decided who will deliver the course?

Resp/sleep is at Newcastle along with Cardiac sciences, Vascular sciences, Gastrointestinal and Urodynamics. They all fall under 'Physiological Sciences'. They do the same 'core' modules and then their own specialism modules. You see less and less of each other as time goes on.

Cheers, thanks for the info! How did you find out Newcastle are delivering the course for the Physiological Sciences specialities? I've been looking but unable to find anything definitive.

Yeah I was only questioning it because I know someone on Resp/Sleep at Birmingham this year and their MSc has been taking place in Manchester. I'm from Newcastle but I've lived in Manchester for the past 6/7 years so I'm fairly lucky that either would be suitable!

I guess either would be fine, but my sister's been living in Brazil for the last 6 years but is moving to Manchester in September so it would be great if it was Manchester! I'm also wondering how log we'll have to wait to hear from our trusts. I'm looking at moving to Cambridge, but don't want to do anything too drastic until everything is confirmed!

I am currently in my second year as a gastro STP trainee at Salford and i went to Newcastle and have been up there with the rest of the physiological sciences lot. The only thing i can think of is that the placements are designated one or the other OR they alternate location by year.

I'm a current first year STP. All the physiology topics (Cardiac, Respiratory, Vascular) are taught at both Manchester and Newcastle, also possibly Birmingham. Your trust gets to pick which you go to, and may or may not let you choose. This year for vascular 2 go to Manchester and the other 12 go to Newcastle.

I didn't hear from my trust until June, and didn't get my contract until August! Don't be afraid to nag nag nag as the NHS is very slow.

I went to an open day earlier this year and for CCVRS the guy speaking said it's like they draw a line down the country - anyone on the west goes to Manc and everyone on the east go to Newc - this is quite vague but maybe it's along those lines too! Will be handy if they let you choose depending on your current circumstances though

oww, well done, that is brilliant news. Unfortunately I doubt they will be making offers as far down the reserve list as me, but it's good to know that high reserves do get offers. If you don't mind me asking what interview score did you get?

    Congrats again

Thanks Nightwing! My interview score was 39, shortlist score 49 and offers rank 29.

I was so surprised that they got as far down as me so I wouldn't ever lose hope until it's completely over, I have everything crossed for you!
