i initially did work experience their months back and i showed how good and efficient i was that the boss called me personally and asked me to help out.

true enough, although I refuse to accept that young people are worth less than those over 22. In my experience of the workplace younger people often end up doing the most demanding and dangerous jobs.
I remember getting a job when I was 19 (2006) and being paid £4.90 an hour. This would have been ok if I hadn't worked for about £6.10 in my previous role.
My first payslip was devastating.
