Hey guys! For question 8 I didn't times through by 2 at the end and so ended up with 3x+y -1/2= 0 rather than 6x+2y-1=0 Any idea if this would affect the mark I get and if so, by how many? THANK YOU

    5. (i) Correct sketch (2 marks)

    (ii) y=\frac{2}{(x+5)^2} (2 marks)

(iii) Stretch scale factor \frac{1}{2} parallel to y axis

I'll be around to answer questions shortly.
Hi Mr M thanks for these! Think I got everything right- but have probably negated a mark for myself in 5 (iii)

I explicitly stated a stretch by scale factor half parallel to the y axis
Then at the end of the question box, leaving quite a lot of space I put in scruffy writing, in brackets, with a ... after it (surely can be both x and y axis) ...

I will most likely get penalised for this won't I?
I wrote it there before checking my paper, to remind myself to come back and forgot to cross it out!!

    Hi Mr. M,
for q10 I had the right method but I got the wrong value for k. I got k=-7 Part two I differentiated my equation correctly and got that it was min, but for part 3 when I equated my dy/dx equation to 9 it was unsolvable. How many marks do you think I will lose?

For question 2 if i did the correct working but got the signs the wrong way, will i still get 2 or 3 marks out of 5 for working? I.e. i put -1/2 and 1

Mr M, what was question 8?
    Thanks
    A is (-2, 6) and B is (3, -8). The line l is perpendicular to x - 3y + 15 = 0 and passes through the midpoint of AB. Find the equation of l in the form ax + by + c = 0 where a, b and c are integers.

Mr M, for the last question for the stationary points i differentiated, equaled it to 0 as the gradient=0, but somehow got k= -4 instead of -5. How many marks would I lose for the answer?

Also for the final part to the last question, i stupidly did -18-9=-9. This means I got the co-ordinates as (-2,-9). However I factorised correctly and got the correct co-ordinate for x, how many marks would I lose for that? Thanks!

For Q7 part 2 I missed the 0 boundary, would I only lose 1 mark for this?
    No lose 2.

    Hello Mr M,

    Thanks for your answers.

1.For Question 5(iii), I put, A stretch parallel to the Y-axis by a scale factor of 2. I thought it was going from 1/x^2 to 2/x^2, thats why I did that. Will I get any marks?

Also, for Question 6, I completed the square, but got (x-0)+(y-4)=40 , and for my Centre I put (0,4) and Radius Sqrt(40).
Because this part of the question was wrong, the Point B on 6(ii) was different too, but the write answer using (0,4)

    Thanks,
    C94
    5iii) drop 1

    6) drop 2 - you might get full credit on the second bit

For the first time in two years I finally did well in a maths exam; does anyone have any idea of what 67 raw marks usually converts to in UMS for Core 1?

Suppose I put two answers down with all workings, one is incorrect and one is right. How marks will i lose? ...This is for the last question
Your final answer will be marked.

I put +/- 1/2 as a route instead of just as 1/2 will I still get the mark?
also think did the correct method but the wrong answer for part (iii) on the last question will I still get method marks? And if so how many?
    drop 1 mark

and yes you will get method marks if you did the correct method

Hey Mr M i compeleted the square for 7(ii) and wrote x= 5/2 +/- root 50/8 would i lose all marks
x shouldn't equal anything as this is an inequality.

You may not get any marks for that.

Hi I put down (0,-9) and (-2,-27) for the last question but stated A as being (0,-9) cos I thought that fit the equation given. Any ideas how many marks I'll lose?
    1 or 2.
