Why is it that battlebots always seem to perform much better than their robot wars equivalents?
Well, you cant really say that as they were not fighting each other.

Higher weight allowances, and less safety guidelines allowing for more powerful weapons for the US series, I would assume.

Spinners were banned from live shows soon after the original TV run of Robot Wars ended, as the temporary arenas weren't deemed safe enough, hence why all the spinners in the Robot Wars reboot are old and outdated, or new and untested in battle. I'm sure they'll get there eventually, this is only a pilot series, after all.

I'm not around this weekend to comment on the finals, so I'll make my prediction now: Thor to win if they get the wildcard; TR2 to win otherwise.

I feel Apollo and (especially) Pulsar's drive problems will hold them back, Shockwave seems tough and reliable but lacks a real 'finishing move', and I think Carbide will struggle against wedge flippers, as there's less for them to hit than there was on the bulky Behemoth, and they're just as likely to damage themselves if turned onto their sides.

But Carbides spinner is long enough is it not to get to the sides or at least upper edge? Might just flick right over the top of Pulsar or the other super low robots though.

Crushers may have had their day now, unless some really new design comes out. Lets be honest, Rafor would have had real trouble against Gabriel.

I'm backing TR2 to win, I hope Thor get the wildcard though to make it a bit more interesting.

One of many Thor vs TR2 battles - not that this says anything about how they'd fare in a larger arena with more hazards and higher walls, but still of interest I'm sure. :p:

I'm not saying Carbide CAN'T hit them, but if Apollo and TR2's driving is any good, they'll keep the front wedge towards it at all times, and if Carbide ends up driving onto that, I think they'll come off worse.

That grand final between Carbide and Apollo :sogood::sogood:

Some really good battles tonight, but the right 2 made it to the grand final, shame Carbide's spinner had issues, but it was a great last battle and Apollo are worthy champions. I'm guessing they've got to bring it back next year, maybe with more episodes? Really enjoyed this series

Damn Carbide is powerful, it completely trashed Thor (impressively put back together though!)

Apollo were worthy winners, I have to say. Shame they didn't get chance to try and flip Sir Killalot!

It sounds like a lot of the teams had little preparation time, like the BBC announced it at short notice sadly.

Killalot seemed very subdued in this series, didn't do much. I think shunt needs upgrading, his scoop should be the thickest thing in the arena.

As a fan of spinners & as I'm from the same city as Carbide I was hoping they'd win. Apollo fought well though & you can't say they don't deserve it. I think it's great to see two very offensively minded robots in the final; it shows that currently the weaponry out there is tough enough to get through (in terms of Carbide) or bypass (in terms of Apollo) even the most heavily armoured competitors. The fact that Carbide managed to tear up Behemoth, which even Hypno Disc couldn't do, and destroy part of the arena wall shows just how spectacular that spinning bar is.
On the other hand, you've got Apollo's flipper which even several hundred kilos of house robot can't escape from. I do wish Apollo had gone after Sir Killalot as he's the heaviest of the bunch.

Once Carbide's weapon failed, I couldn't see them getting a result; The robot is so specialised it just doesn't have the pushing power force an opponent into the pit or house robots if the bar stops spinning. I don't think Carbide lost a single battle when its bar kept spinning whereas I don't think it won one in battles where it failed. Hopefully they'll come back again next time & we'll also see the return of Hyno Disc upgraded to current standards (because Carbide would tear them apart at the moment).

I think well defiantly see Hypno Hisk again panic attack would be good if it came back and of course Razer must return.

I have to admit- the new series is pretty good.
Normally when they bring back a show like that (e.g. gladiators) its usually pretty **** an no where near as good as the original. But they have really done well with this one.

The better robot won, shame carbide didn't win, but once that spinner broke it was doomed. Hope we get another series soon, with some more teams, especially those from the past!

Enjoyed the series and the superior robot won. Power of that flipper just outclassed everyone else.
    Hope its back next year.

Really enjoyed this series. The grand finals were great as well.

Carbide obviously had some highlights but after their first match with Apollo and the unnecessary extra damage they decided to inflict to a completely immobile machine I started rooting against them. Seeing TR2 take them down was hugely cathartic and seeing Apollo win the runback was great as well.

Speaking of Apollo, worthy winners in my book. Hugely entertaining, very good driver and all three seem like top blokes. I hope they'll be back to add Sir Killalot to the set!

ITs been done well enough (apart from the retarded editing of showing the teams and not the actual fight) and has been enjoyed by enough people that they would be foolish not to do it again. Although I bet Sky try and buy it, they buy everything else :unimpressed:

I just want to see what happens when the full speed disk of Hypno Disc and the bar of Carbide actually touch each other, I have no idea what would happen.

    Back~

That final was, in my opinion, the best of all eight Robot Wars series so far. Though TBH, a lot of the previous finals were underwhelming due to robots breaking down or the fights being overly one-sided. This one was perfect... even if I still can't predict a winner.
