Well, causation just means a relationship where a change in one variable causes another... It gives a list of 'causes', things that - if they change - could cause dyslexia, but then Crystal goes on to disprove this, saying that 'the main methodological problem in such research is to determine whether the weakness shown by dyslexics is the cause or the result of the handicap'. Weird, I know, but that's David Crystal for ya!

On the AQA website, there is a PDF that gives the tasks that were set in 2002 and 2003. Don't know if this is any help to anyone, but I've updated it so it covers all exams up to June 2007, and has details of what the subject, task, genre and audience of each exam was.

Hope it is of some help!

Sooo useful , you are a god.

So as we can see, both the tasks for one set of texts being transcript only happens ONCE in all the years. Everyone dreads the thought of a transcript so we are pretty safe in not having to chose that option...i hope

King James basically wrote a book because i he was facinated but equally scared of witchcraft and demons. He was very religious and stressed this in the book of a way to overcome demons. He outlined ways of testing for witches eg: the water test and pricking moles (eurgh!) and also worte about how witches came about and superstitiuos things. so overall it was just reflective of the fearful ideologies of the time, and how they were paranoid about everyone being witches!!

I'm so fed up of revision that i've even taken to quoting myslelf to help someone on this dreaded website!! Anyway that is what text G is about. Hope it helps you!

Look at the Form Purpose and audience of each text.
Highlight key points in each text that you can pick out and use.
Group the texts. Think how you could use each text dependant on format such as website/leaflet/article etc.

Question 4 is as close as you'd get, methinks.
So its kind of like a mini text book?

This exam is such a nightmare Several people in my class have AAAA in the rest of their modules, myself included, and yet got Es or Us for this in January! I prepared both packs last time and think in hindsight it was a bit much to absorb, so am just doing the dyslexia one now. That, and I don't really have time for both - damn all my exams being within a few days of each other! I really hope I do better in this unit next week though... I need an A overall in English for uni and don't want it to pull my grade down

Do you think it's stupid of me just to focus on the one pack? Aghhh, I don't know. So far I've just annotated and highlighted lots for dyslexia - I need to start grouping them and maybe thinking about how I'd go about re-writing them in different styles, based on past paper tasks.

On an unrelated note, Introspectre - your icon makes me want to ask you what they say of the acropolis where the parthenon is!!

Has anyone done character summaries of the 'witches'
I just organised both packs texts from the same book/website cos in almost all cases that will equal a target audience. Finding the Dyslexia one so un interesting...its all fact i feel i cant annotate.

Also loving the witches one so far in a sadistic way since my head wants to explode.
Just wondering if any one is going to research any of the sources from both packs to see how reliable they are? like check out the websites and books?

p.s. is there a link/thread for the Language Change/and or/ Language Acquistion Exam?
