    Hey everyone,

I thought I'd copy the people above by making a Facebook group for the Genomics trainees this year - https://www.facebook.com/groups/162290054183473/

Feel free to join and add anyone else you know that is on the genomics programme!
    And Clinical Bioinformatics (Genomics) too?

Maybe this will be more appropriate

Without wanting to "sound" like a copycat, here is a Group for STP Clinical Bioinformatics too https://www.facebook.com/groups/1021827007865567/

I'm going through the sign-up for the academic portion at the moment. Aston require a sponsor letter to avoid fees. Have any of you done this already and can point me in the direction of who to contact at the NHS/NHSCS? Here's the email from Aston:
Thank you for accepting your offer on the MSc in Clinical Science (Neurosensory Sciences) programme for the academic year 2016/7. Sponsored Students: If a third party, typically a Company, Research Council or Government Institute is paying fees on your behalf you will need to provide a letter from your sponsor. This document must be on headed paper or an official purchase order, stating: •The student name•The amount they will be contributing, e.g. 50%, 100% or a figure can be given e.g. £5000•The academic period that they are paying, whether they are just paying for 2014/15 or state that they are paying for the whole duration of the programme you are on 3 or 4 years•A contact name for Aston's Finance Department• A full invoicing address and email address for the area responsible for making payments

For those of you going through this in future, I contacted nshcs and they're working through it - it appears to be a new system. Email details:

"I am in discussion with the HEI to determine if I can provide one letter for the entire cohort or whether each student needs a letter, I will be in touch with the school once I have an answer we can disseminate the responses to students as appropriate apologies for the inconvenience this appears to be a new system"

Ive still not heard anything. Im just assuming that I never got it.
I've not heard anything either and neither have the people from my degree class who applied to it as well! We are only at four weeks at the end of this week though since the closing date. Also I applied to the cardiology one as well which closed last Friday. What I found weird was that they started processing that application waaaayyy before the closing date so I was kind of hoping they'd linked up the applications and maybe considering me for an interview? That's just being hopeful though :/

Oh no, I understand how stressful that might be! It should be just a formality if the funding does not even come from the trust! Seeing that your post will not affect their budget, I don't think the director would like to start the post making such harsh decisions who would affect not only you but the team who was expecting you in September. Fingers crossed for you, keep us updated!

Thanks, it has finally been approved! so relieved! Hopefully HR don't take long to get in touch now!

Is anyone looking at getting somewhere to stay in Newcastle in October / November for the Masters and be interested in looking for a flat share / air bnb or something for those weeks?
Yeah I'm thinking a flat share or something may be cheaper than the other alternatives!

Been having a read through this massive thread! Some really good info and advice but does anyone know if the application for positions in Scotland is the same? Can't find much info on it on the NHS scotland website other than it exists. Thanks

Hi, thank you! I've actually received a few emails today answering my questions 🙈 I'm interested as to when the start date is because I have to do the academic part in Newcastle on the 3rd of October for 6 weeks. Not sure whether I should rent a house for the first few weeks of starting the job or just wait till after the 6 week academia (I can just about commute from my parent's house to Leeds). It's all so confusing, I just want a plan haha!

Hey! Congrats! It's great to know we'll be working together! No I haven't sorted anything out yet, I'm waiting to hear back from the trust just to find someone who can answer these questions. I am able to stop at my uncle's or my boyfriends house up near Newcastle so that is a possibility for me thankfully!

I think the application of positions in Scotland are slightly different to the English ones because the positions for Scotland just seem to come up randomly and you only need to fill in an application form to be considered for an interview rather than having to also complete online tests. Have you applied to any of the Scottish positions?*

If anyone here is moving to Birmingham or the West Midlands area and is looking for somewhere to live, there will be a room available in my house from 27th August. I'm just coming to the end of my first year on the STP, and I live with another trainee who is just about to finish her second year. PM me if you're interested or have any questions

    Hey guys,

I've recently enrolled at Machester and wanted to know if anyone will be at there from Sept-Nov? I have 7 weeks block of studying, potentially looking for a flat mate

    Meeeee!
I was just looking at AIRBNB and there are some rooms to rent on there that give you discount if you stay longer than a month but if people were up for renting an airbnb flat for the time there its a little more social than living in someone elses house! I will be paying for my flat back in Manchester for the 6 weeks I am in Newcastle and so want to find something as cheap (but fun) as possible. I think I am getting a little bit of help with finance from my trust but not sure how much yet!

PM if you want to chat more about it
