I thought that exam was pretty good

What did you guys get for the section B maths questions with zinc?

    For the amount of water - X - i got 5.6

For the question asking you to work out the mass of zinc i got something around 8 (had 16 at first)

For the purity percentage i got 53%

    Did i get any right?
 I thought that exam was horrible, and i revised well!
I got x=7, ang 87 point something% :'( and that was my resit

i've given the examiner a lovely complicated essay of nonsense for the mass of ZnO question, ended up with 6.something :') apart from the two 4 mark zinc questions, the rest of the exam was pretty good

just the purity question, and i put 7 carbons instead of 8 for the octane combustion reaction good exam, but i can understand why people would find that difficult, there're basically making A-level propa tough...dreading my A2 sheeetttt!!!!

Can someone explain why the percentage was around 90% - i got 53%

Also i got 5.6 for the value of x - how did people get 7

    Thanks
i dont remember the question fully but for the percentage one.... then you had to work out the mass of the Zn in ZnCl2 which was the relative atomic mass of Zn over the molecular mass of the whole thing and times it by the mass of ZnCl2 which was 10.7 or something. and you would have got an answer around 5.1.... dont remember totally and then you put that number over the mass of Zn in the reactants which was 5.68 or something and times it by 100 to get a percentage.
    Does that make sense??

It was a water of crystallisation question:
You had to do, ZnSomething(I forgot).xH20
    g of ZnS.xH20 - ZnS = g of H20
    mass(ZnS) / Mr and mass(xH20) / Mr
    = 1 : 7 Ratio and x = 7
    so ZnS.7H20

    Like empirical formula

I didn't understand the purity question though.. anyone?

Thought the exam was pretty straightforward. The 1 markers were annoying but apart from that it was a good paper.

i put InF4 for that one i think.... it didnt really make sense coz it had to be the same number of atoms, electrons and something else.... mine was just a guess
