    That sucks :/

We need to revamp the education system here. We need to copy Finland.
    YES.
    COPY FINLAND.
I love how they don't have it competitive and that the teachers actually trust the students.
I don't see if that system is as well as it is why most countries don't copy it.

We should only copy Finland to a certain extent in my opinion. I love the mandatory masters degree requirements for teachers who teach in Primary and Secondary level education. In contrast, the head of Geography here thought Morocco was in the middle east. I also like the encouragement of both Academic and Vocational paths of education there, whilst the education system here is incredibly weighted towards the "You must go to uni" path. On the other hand, they have no gifted programs and the most talented there seldom get enough/any support to exploit their full potential.

Different countries have different priorities. In Asian countries, parents generally have a huge emphasis on achieving the best school grades possible and this is reflected in the PISA results (With Shanghai taking the top spot in the world for Maths, Science and Reading with Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Japan and Finland bringing up the rear). In contrast, the education system and general pressure towards achieving A*s in Britain is far lower from my experience. This country can only feasibly move towards a Finnish system when society itself changes its attitudes to the value of education. That's not to say the British system isn't good. It's still decent in comparison to many other countries around the world, but I don't think it's fair to say "Teachers should trust their students more" when there is quite a good reason for teachers not trusting their students. Do people here enjoy doing homework as an example?

I don't mind where it is as long as it's not ridiculously short like the June 2012 extract for OMAM. For Thursday I'm doing Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and the Unseen Poetry question. You?
