Goalhanging is when you deliberately stay in the other team's penalty area so that you can scoop the goals in as soon as they're passed to you. It's bad because it doesn't make football interesting (all you'll get are four strikers spending the entire match in the box with the only passes being speculative long shots).

Halfway line is halfway up the pitch. (where they kick off the ball at the start, at half time, and when someone's scored a goal) Germany play a high defensive line like that because they play a possession-orientated strategy which focuses on keeping hold of the ball whilst passing it around inside the opponent's half. Having a high line makes it more likely for you to maintain this pressure.
So to avoid being penalised for offside, the strikers have to run around the pitch a lot more and separate? So they're not all in the penalty area?

How do you know Germany's playing strategy?

No they need to hang slightly behind the defender line so if it's passed to them they're not offside.

Because everyone who watches football can deduce their playing strategy. Look up "Tika Taka".

So basically there has to be a defender closer to the goalpost than the strikers are? Why's football so confusing???

Reminds me of waka waka the Shakira song for the South African world cup. I think I'd watch that instead

    Basically yeah.

When they're attacking anyway, they can't pass 'over' a defender if the last defender is further away from the goalie than the attacker.

But that makes football a lot more difficult doesn't it? Not only do they have to worry about passing the ball, they need to worry about their position in comparison to the other players! :lolwut:
