Sumptuous film. I forget how powerful the music is, it gave my goosebumps goosebumps in the final scene.
Absolutely right. Isn't it just wonderful!

It's magnificent. Sidenote: I see that 'The Departed' and 'Goodfellas' do not merit places on your list... :holmes:

Thanks. "Goodfellas" is an oversight (now corrected). "The Departed" is not.

Sigh, each to their own. I'm guessing Kill Bill didn't tickle your fancy either?

I am a huge fan of Mr Scorsese, for sure. But the Departed was a BIG disappointment.

Kill Bill was entertaining enough, but is not great cinema, by any stretch of the imagination.

Kill Bill is one of my favorite movies :yep:

I didn't quote either of you though, because I felt it'd be rude to intrude.

Black Swan was amazing. Confusing, but amazing.

    Just watched it. WOW. Amazing.

Natalie Portman a definite Oscar contender for best actress!
Nah I think her and Mila Kunis should win the "Best All-Girl Sex Scene" at the AVN awards :awesome:

Hmm, The Departed worked for me, it was sprawling but tight at the same time, pretty epic. And haha, agreed about Kill Bill, but I'm a bit of a martial arts junkie, so it's got a place in my heart. But anyway, I digress, Black Swan, stonking stuff.

Absolutely gorgeous film. Stunning. I'm so glad Natalie Portman won the BAFTA for best actress for her part in Black Swan.

I watched it, and by the end I was sure I'd seen something quite amazing, but there were parts of it that weren't clicking into place.
Did a bit of reading around online about it, and found the thing that made it all come together. I need to watch it again in this new context, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it far more.

Personally, I thought Barbara Hershey almost stole the show in her role, she definitely stood out to me, perhaps more than Mila Kunis.
Can you link me to what you found (if you remember what it was now :P)

edit: oops I read further on and see you've answered it

Oh yes. Whatever we disagree on, we can agree on that.

Are you familiar with Dario Argento's flms? Black Swan is in many ways a homage to that sort of "Giallo" film-making. Check out Suspiria

I really didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, quite freaky in places tho. I don't think I'll forget it any time soon as I do with most films.

Heard a lot about him but never got round to watching any of his films, I'll look into that if I have any time. On another note, I saw The King's Speech yesterday. It was very very well done, I actually rather liked it, but I fail to see what the immense fuss is about. For me, Black Swan was far better. But hey, maybe I'm missing something, who knows.

I agree with you 100% Black Swan is far better. (being cynical about it for a second, KS is a heady combination of female adoration of Mr Firth coupled with the old monarchy-empire-costume drama-isn't Britain simply maaarvellous daaaahling - effect)

I've just seen it the other day. It really wasn't as good as I was led to believe it was.

Does it have anything to do with Nicholas Taleb's book?
No, you idiot, it doesn't!

I watched Black Swan at the cinema 4 times. I cried the first time because of how moving it was, and it slowly got funnier each time to the point where I was crying in fits of laughter the last.

I am a sad, strange teenager.

What a film. To make a gripping action movie out of ballet is a superb effort. It also contains a very thought provoking look at the human psyche.
