I hate my voice whenever I hear it! Thought I might as well give this a go though

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm sure some of you have heard of the 'Regional Dialect Meme' or 'Accent Tag'. You basically just have to read a list of words and see how everybody says them differently. Thought it could be interesting to give that a go too

The words are:
Aunt
Route
Wash
Oil
Theatre
Iron
Salmon
Caramel
Fire
Water
Sure
Data
Ruin
Crayon
Toilet
New Orleans
Pecan
Both
Again
Probably
Spitting image
Alabama
Lawyer
Coupon
Mayonnaise
Syrup
Pyjamas
Caught

Any guesses? To be fair, my accent changes all the time depending on who I'm with.

South East of England?
Sort of, yeah.

I'm an East Ender, but my accent fluctuations between cockney and posh-ish, with bits of Black Country thrown in for good measure, owing to my Dad's upbringing and accent.

For example, I say bath rather than barth.

Good guess!

I'd say around the same for you? Home counties?

ah my bad, poor microphone quality. but you've got a mighty fine level of English for never having lived in England! I wasn't aware you learned British English over in Poland. I actually said "nothing to be ashamed of" but spoke a bit too quickly. Not even exaggerating but you probably speak English more often than me nowadays and I'm American. :grumble:

Hope you get to go to England sooner rather than later!

Vocaroo thread!

1) Think of something to read or say, the sillier the better
2) Press record
3) Click here to save
4) Post the share link here in the thread

I also ask that you listen to your voice message yourself first to hear if it's too loud or if there's too much background noise.

I loved your Trinidadian accent!
Yeah I'm from the South, any guesses where though? I don't think many people will guess tbh because my accent isn't very broad anymore, I've been living in Manchester for the last 3 years and lost my lovely local twang

Ohh ok. Yeah we learn British English, but relying on your school teachers only won't get you that far ;p lots of people are learning from movies etc., I know some British and some American vocabulary due to that and I probably mix it sometimes ;d but I thought that my accent was more American that British and also people I met in London told me that ;d but I have to say it varies a bit depending on a situation xd
I'm doing IB, kind of international high school, all in English so I read and write in English a lot, but I don't speak almost at all as we're all Polish, our teachers are Polish and their English is sometimes poor and it's just convenient to use Polish, although not exactly like it's supposed to be ;d

edit: But then, you don't sound American at all to me.. ;p Is that because you lived in the UK or I'm just not an expert on this? ;d
