I missed every one that wasn't an introduction to a module. This included a presentation, tour of the library/campus/resources/blah.
It depends on the university though, some don't care about your attendance but its apparent Leicester does care... but he did miss important lectures too! I mean to get two attendance meetings in one semester is bad! I think the exam results were just luck tbh. But you'd think with a subject like Physics, you would attend every lecture to get your money's worth.

The clever ones clearly go to Loughborough and Nottingham over Leicester :holmes:

Watching it on C4+1 right now. Feel sorry for Lauren, that's essentially how I was at the start.
She scares me a little! xD Glad she got over her initial sadness though.

My question is why the hell didn't Brenda go and get a damn part time job if money was such a big worry for her instead of spending £300 on ****e she doesn't need. She was an idiot who had not been brought up with good money consciousness, something I would expect from a working class family. She was a damn idiot if she thinks she can get her parents or partners to bail her out when things get a bit tight, I wouldn't have given her rent money either if I had been her parents and the only time she called me was when she needed money. Screw that.

Who said she didn't try? I mean I'm not defending her, she should have taken a gap year and saved up, but it's not easy to get a job when you have thousands of people moving into the city at the same time and most of them chasing jobs. I only work 4 hours a week and I'm pretty happy even to have that. The money is **** but it just tops up my study loan enough to love comfortably and get smashed whenever I want

I've only just started watching, but I have to say I'm enjoying it!

Although... Aiden annoys me, I might sound boring, but there's people who don't get into uni at all who would take it far more seriously than him. He's just there for the "banter" and ****s off the people who are staying in and/or taking it seriously.

Hassan also annoys me because he just reminds me of a lazy guy I lived with this year who couldn't be bothered to get up for lectures. So what if it's freshers? Yeah you're tired, get over it. He's lucky he can obviously pass without turning up for stuff.

And if I'd gone out and spent £300 on clothes "and shoes" like Brenda at any point during the year, my parents would have come and taken everything off me and removed me from university themselves. Also, I could never ask someone I'd never actually met in person if I could borrow £500  and then she turns up an hour late and judges him for being short

I'm not sure whether I think Helen is attractive. I believe I do, but it could just because she's in the spotlight

Aiden = chav LAD who just goes to university for the social side and attempts to cling on to their secondary school social status. It annoyed me how he goes to university and ends up not wanting to do a degree and then complains when no one goes out and gets wasted when lectures and seminars have started. Wow uni students taking their work SERIOUSLY? When their futures depend on these grades? OMG such gimps and boffins! The worst kind of UniLAD stereotype. People like him need to grow up and realise University for a lot of people isn't a repeat of high school or else seriously re evaluate why they chose to go there in the first place - which he did in the episode.

Aiden - makes me glad I only stick to my flatmates in all honesty. Don't think I'd want to get to know such a guy.

Hassan - I think he should push himself more to go to lectures. Introductory lectures are important IMO as they will give you the full details of each module.

Brenda - Holy ****, why spend your last remaining money on clothes instead of using it to go out with mates?

The overall show puts university in a bad light. I'd expected that it would show the good side - but it didn't.

    This, exactly this.

I really thought the show would be escapism - portraying university in a good light. Actually, it was the opposite. Most people at uni aren't like that, but then again they'd be classed as "too boring" for the show.

No wonder the next episode will be the last.

Agreed. They mentioned flat sharing but I think that they should've been gone into greater detail. I mean, my flatmates have notices everywhere reminding us of the house rules.

One thing above all in that episode said a lot. Aiden was complaining that he couldn't go out because nobody in his flat was up to it and his flat was all boring. That shows he wasn't a BNOC (Big Name On Campus), or the Leicester legend with a 'reputation' that everyone knew about that he thought he was going to be, because at uni the big socialites are well connected, even in their first year, they meet people through their course, part time jobs, they are just natural networkers with others that socialise a lot, and they always get invites to things or are organising things. If Aiden was stuck in because he couldn't find someone to go out with it means he didn't really have friends outside his flat and halls.

Most people, after the first few weeks, are not up for going out every night, they don't have the money for it and they have to study as well and also people start socialising at home as well, as you realise the difference between uni and any environment you've done before is simple things like watching films or even TV, playing playstation etc become a lot more fun when you've got mates around. But there are people that will go out every night and don't care about anything else, so if you want to do this type of thing you have to find the others like that. For someone like Aiden though that wants to be the 'big personality' in a group, the danger is that the others that are out every night will have some big charismatic characters and so he might not be able to get all the attention like he can in a small group of his own flatmates.

He's living in dream world about moving to the USA and becoming a millionaire. Has he actually looked in to how he's going to do it? It seemed that he thought he would be able to do a placement in the USA but then when he was there found out he couldn't, so he obviously hadn't even done the most basic research. It's hard to get a green card to work in the USA, he will have to have something really special to offer them to get to move over there. Does he know what that will be? Is his special thing that he can act like a tool when he's drunk (in the company of a small group of friends)....well until the USA develops a shortage of frat boys, no green card for him.

Perhaps orange crush is pointing out that you claiming to work 19 hours a day, 7 days a week is unlikely. Especially when your posts, like the one I've quoted which you posted at 1pm, lies between the hours you claim to work.

But anyway, enough. Don't feed the trolls and all that.

I think what bothered me most about Brenda was when she said "are you paying for this?". I was just so shocked! It's a shame because she seemed like she might be funny from previous episodes, but she was horrible. That Troy must be totally lovestruck, or rich, or both.

I also kind of suspect that Jack guy of being gay, please don't scream at me for this. But his behaviour of only kissing girls then quickly making an excuse I found off. Of course he may just be a gentleman/nervous about his first time/looking for the right person.

Hassan struck me as the truely sheltered type. If you aren't going to lectures, at least admit, 100% that it was your fault. People that blame circumstances "why are the lectures in fresher's" "why are they at 9am?". I never understood the whole "9am lectures, ugh" thing. School and college often started before 9am, why is it suddenly difficult?

Oh and that mysterious person that posts claiming to be on the show is clearly Lauren. Her SR name is even "lolly" which is often a nickname for Lauren. Plus it kind of matches her personality that she would be on the student room, and also feel compelled to check what others are saying about her.

Most of the working class families I know raised their children to be more considerate of money and the cost/worth of things. Many of the middle class children, however, have struggled with it more because they're used to money just being handed to them more freely.
