To be honest as a girl you typically talk about hair, makeup, clothes and boys. As a back girl you are automatically shut off from the hair and makeup part if your friends are mostly white. Sometimes when you are young its easier to just go with the flow, relax your hair until you are mature enough to understand what really matters.
yea but ppl can make poor decisions despite their age.

i wear my hair in braids because I am too lazy for natural hair. It spend about 6-8 hours every 2 months getting my hair done and for the rest of that time i don't touch my hair. For those who say it is easy to deal with, i would like to remind you that there are different grades of coarseness. Whilst your girlfriend may have had soft hair another may have really knotty coarse hair. Also when you wash afro hair it shrinks up to 10x its original length which means it has to be brushed out or heated to stop more knots from developing.
i consider braids natural cause it looks like it could be your natural hair even if its extensions.

    (Original post by lokolika)
if i told any of you that you would only have to do your hair every 6 - 8 weeks what would you say. weave or braids doesn't make you insecure it just means you opted for an easier lifestyle which may be necessary to some or an optional benefit to others.
yea but not washing your hair for 2 months is kinda unhygienic.

i dont understand how people thought their grand parents coped with grooming themselves without all these trinkets.

if your weave made your hair look natural then ok. but if your trying to get bone straight indian, chinese, hair then that looks unnatural. not only that but you really get to see the problem with how irrationally important it is for some women. like they wont want their boyfriend to see their natural hair cause they feel vulnerable n what not.

braids is different though. thats a protective hairstyle that looks like it could be your natural hair.

I totally agree with you matthewduncan and I will go further and say that I think a lot of black girls sadly maybe suffer from mass brainwashing/hypnosis.

I think the fact that the majority wear weaves is proof itself of a sort of mental disorder this in itself makes me less attracted to them because I cannot be attracted to anyone who feels their natural state is unattractive. A lot of them use the defence of it being easier to manage I think that is a big cop out these are the same people who will criticize the way a Caucasian mother of mixed raced children by mixed here I mean the child being of black and white parentage.

They will criticize the way a Caucasian mother takes care of her mixed child's hair and say she is not doing it right yet at the same time fail to see their own hypocrisy when they can't or choose not to manage their own hair and instead choose to wear weaves.

I see a lot of Caucasian mothers with mixed children and their kids' hair looks fine to me no one should try and point fingers at them especially women who have problems of their own when it comes to child rearing.

Yep i agree with you mate.
Its time something gets done about it and fast because this is getting bloody ridiculous now. Its a borderline mental health problem
How can you acknowledge and complain about "european beauty standards" being pushed on you, complain that the media are racist to you and prefer white and mixed race women then you start walking around trying to look european.
Its like when women complain about men only judging them on their looks when they are walking around with eyebrow pencil, eyeliner, fake nails, foundation and lipstick.

Also men we have to take some of the blame because gods honest truth my wife and my daughters could never be wearing asian hair.
it simply would not be allowed

uuum, Im sorry but I wash my hair once or twice a week. with braids in. Sorry if you didn't get that. LOL. Its with natural hair that people wash it less often because when you wash it it shrink 10x its length and its a pain to push it out again to stop HUGE knots forming. with braids you just shove some tresemme on your hair, roots and down the braids rise, repeat condition then spray with braid spray when you're done.

Its also quite sad that because I wear fake hair in a different way its seen as better even though my braids are almost waist length and is smooth so clearly isn't mine.

However I do get you points. I often have my natural hair out in between braiding and I always get at least 5 people everyday, touching my hair and talking about it like Im an alien or something. I don't really mind and as they are people I know id rather tell them about my hair than remain ignorant but some people i know feel uncomfortable when people single them out in anyway. whether it be their hair or their clothes or anything really.

Someone once said 'wtf you hair is like a sheeps hair or a bunny tail; thats so freaky' If you are the sort of person who remembers these things than you might be scared about showing you boyfriends your natural hair which could be thin, uneven, damaged or short. I don't judge because I don't know peoples circumstances but yes in some cases it can be because of insecurity.

Just on your comment of white guys not liking to date black girls (or I am going to say darker girls as you will see why later) I think that isn't true. The two girlfriends I have had were darker skinned. My first was black and my second was brown (she's bangladeshi and calling a bangladeshi black is a huge insult to them...why I said darker skinned). I don't know why but I just seem to prefer darker skin It isn't a concious thing like I will go "ah she is dark...I like" it just appears that I'm naturally more attracted to darker skinned people

I was talking about weave with the hair washing thing not braids. but its cool. the texture in braids does look similar enough that some of my friends have their real hair breaded near the top and then transition into the fake braids for the extra length.

also when your the only white guy in your peer group people tend to do the same thing in regards to the hair fascination. although I'm sure its probably less frequent since I've noticed white people are generally more touchy feely with strangers and of course there's more of them.

i'd imagine sheep have more Jew curls than afro hair. same with bunnies i've never seen a bunny with an afro tail lol. but yea i hear you

I have no idea what you mean here by 'typical black girl' It seems to me you are comparing yourself to the stereotypical view of a black girl i.e being loud having a big bum and chest and thick thighs be clear here I am only using descriptive words you typed up. It seems you think you somehow more special or above these other 'typical black girls' you described, you must be quite a catch.

As for the bit I put in bold I think it's total gibberish its nothing but your assumptions sure some black guys may like girls with a big bum and thighs that is no proof for a reason why they don't want to date you. Reading your post I think it may be more to do with your unlikable personality.
No I don't think I am better then the other black girls I was just giveing my opinion sorry if you felt that way cos I didn't want to be come across rude

That's new. I'm zimbabwean and I've never heard of the whole promiscuity thing. As far as I'm aware zimbabwean girls are about as promiscious as the next girl.

And about white boys not liking black gals that's false a lot of boys in my school are attracted to them and there's lots of inter racial relationships

On the topic of black hair. I'll just do a little intro on my hair

I was natural as a child up until the age of 9/10 when I begged to get a relaxer (my mum was reluctant). Before that my hair was in extensions or left out in really (at the time) horrible natural styles. My mum worked so she didn't have the time to do my hair fancy or anything like that so I disliked my hair. My mum and sister also had their hair relaxed or in weaves so I looked up to them. My hair was in a relaxer (with extensions every now and then) until 14/15 when I decided that natural was the way to go.

Okay now comes the home truth opinions about our hair

The first reason I considered natural was because I wanted to dye my hair and I realised that I couldnt unless my hair was natural. Then I came across a bunch of american women talking about the truth about relaxers, how they are dangerous blah blah. I learnt a lot and I decided that if I wanted healthy hair natural was my only option. So I cut my hair and had a few inches growth of natural hair stretched. I went to school and everyone loved it! I received so many compliments!!!! I did get one bad comment though and it was from TWO BLACK PEOPLE!!!!!!!! They said my hair is short and that I looked like a boy. Now out of all the comments I received the best reception I got was from non black people. How about that. Even my mom and dad said some quite nasty comments like my hair is unkept and my sister made a few snide comments. My dad said i could straighten my hair if I want and that it would look nice.

This showed me that this hair issue only exists amongst black people. We hate our own hair. The one that grows from our scalp.

We blame the media yet this issue lies within ourselves and we can't see it. I love my natural hair and I love to straighten it too, but you will never catch me wearing a full head weave. No curly extensions either. Not while my hair is so thick and strong as of today. Tomorrow I can't speak for as you can't predict the issues you may run into like hormonal issues or cancer or general hair shedding.

The reason why a lot of mixed race girls keep their hair natural is not because their hair is easier to manage!!! A lot of mixed race girls have white mums?!?! If black mums struggle with natural hair than why do you expect a white mom to find it easy. White moms with black children don't hold that prejudice to black hair like black moms do. A lot probs admire it.

Right now a lot of women are realising the affects of relaxer and weaves on hair and they are going natural because it is essential for healthy hair. Don't wait until your 30 and your hair is shedding.

I'd also like to add a bit to the topic of white men with black women. If you like white men then there are ones that like black women. To be honest so many black men have issues with black women's beauty that they only date white women. A lot of black women have been indirectly forced to to go with white men. Sad but true. Black women are the least likely to be in a relationship with anyone. But we are also less likely to seek men of other races as oppose to white and Asian women. So black men not considering black women and black women not considering other races means low partnership statistics in black females.

Personally I wouldn't care if white or black men dont like your skin colour. If you find the one person that does then you won't hair. Don't like a few men in your study put you of. Love has not colour.

That awkward moment when black isn't a race thus you cannot put it in a racial class.

Looking at some of the threads by guys who are not really into black girls.
I can see some of the issues.
It seems largely people have no problem with dating black girls.
But guys from affluent backgrounds who look for marriage tend to have a problem.

most youngsters dont really think far ahead logistically in terms of marriage.
for most youngsters its just about finding someone you love.
leading a family as a unit or a house hold is rarely thought about.
the exception is young people from affluent backgrounds. their family is often affluent for a reason. because they view partners in this house hold management way.
for example they marry into wealth.
most kids from our generation don't really care about that. and when they do its very trashy gold digger girls.

    affluent people operate like this.
your parents have "parties" (not raves but like champagne, hors d'oeuvres and bruno mars back ground music.)
where they get all their rich friends and all their kids to come round.
they put all the kids together and let them socialise.
these are all people with businesses and high education. who will see that their children do well and can provide business opportunities for each other and each others kids. "oh daniel jr has graduated as an architect? well there is a place for him at my company waiting for him" that kind of thing. those kids will maintain their links with those other rich kids and become the new parents with their own kids. always expending and gaining wealth.

so your a white british person from a middle class family. your parents own at least 1 business and you drive a 4x4.
thats the profile of this guy.

    dating a minority.
minorities complain a lot because they have it hard.

so why would you want to date someone that complains about your privilege when you could just date someone like you and only worry about 1 difference. gender.

    they have it hard
if you have it easy. and your looking for a wife to start a family with. why are you going to choose a women who has it hard?
surely dating another who is just as if not more successful than you. you want to marry someone that will help you move forward.
not carry someone who complains that will take you a step back.

    kids.
having mixed race kids its difficult.
your going to be raising someone who is going to have a very different experience in life. plus have a very different identity to you. this difference between you and your own child will make it difficult for you to understand things from your child's point of view and therefor will be less able to coach your child through life as you would a child that had a very similar identity to you. not only this. but your child is going to inherit the same minority status as the women you have the child with.

so even if you've married this women and moved her into a nice big house and you've both got nice big jobs and you send your kid to a nice big school. at that school. at those "parties" you have. your kids will always be the minority.

even in a city like london that is probably the most mixed city in the world in my opinion i doubt you would find many mixed race children in the posh grammar schools. i mean two parents from different races means your kid is going to be a minority of a minority.

anyway... all stuff to think about.

There are certain things I dislike about this post. Firstly there are many black and mixed race people in grammar and private schools. Not as many as white but they are there. But white people will out number any ethnic minority.

The senorio you mentioned can happen with any two races whether the man or women is black, white, Asian, Spanish and so on. Some families don't agree with interracial relationships or dating someone of a lower status class. This doesn't just apply to black women as there are some black women who are of a higher status class. You just don't see them that often because the UK has a tiny black community.

There are other things that I don't understand about this post either. Like you mention a middle class family but you continue as if the families are aristocrats. I wouldn't call middle call with one business rich for example. There are thousands of black people who live that lifestyle and are intelligent and send their children to university.

I'm the last anon BTW. Maybe anon number 8.
