    Hello everyone!

So glad I found this thread! Answered so many of those niggly thoughts in my head waiting to hear back from Uni's.

I have applied for City and UCL however did not get into UCL so hoping for good news from City soon, this waiting is painful!! I am assuming that City will let us know via email if we got through? Does anyone know?

Good luck to all those who have got interviews comming up !

Both my twin sister and I have applied to Reading - I heard from them before Christmas saying I was invited for an interview but my sister has heard nothing. Strange that they didn't write to both of us, especially as our experience/qualifications are pretty much the same...

Hello, I've new here and just wondered if you guys could give me any advice.

I'm in my last year at uni doing Psychology and am thinking of doing a postgraduate qualification in speech and language therapy. I am taking a year out when I finish uni to get some work experience. However, I am slightly concerned because some applications for certain uni's need to be in by this November. This only leaves me very little time after I've finished my degree to get some work experience. How much work experience, and for how long prior to applying have you all had?

Also, I've seen you can either do a postgraduate diploma or an MSc in speech and language therapy. What is the benefit of doing a MSc over the diploma?

    Thank you for your help!

Hey guys! I'm from outside the UK and I've applied to 5 unis this year (already got rejected by 3 though..).

Just got an email from Reading saying that I'll be interviewed via telephone! Eeek!

Anyone have any tips or know some typical questions that the interviewer would prolly ask? So nervous!

Congratulations! I'm not sure what questions they are likely to ask either.

Where did you get rejections from? Did you apply for the MSc/PGDip?

    Hi Charlotte,
UCL, for example, recommend that you submit your application as near to the deadline as possible so as to have the chance to get as much experience as possible. City however, recommend applying as soon as you can as they start considering applications as soon as it opens. I waited until the deadlines to submit so as to gain as much experience as possible. That said, everyone stresses that it's not how much experience you have gained, it's how well you can reflect on what you do have and how that's developed your understanding of the role an SLT plays, or perhaps the effect a communication difficulty has on an individual. UCL also offers the option to describe the work experience you have planned, so you could write about everything you have planned for your year out. (Just using the examples of the unis I know of!) In terms of the PG Diploma and the MSc- the MSc is just a higher academic level. The PG Diploma at City can be followed by a 6 month research project to bump you up to a MSc and costs about 2k (this year I think). Anyway hope that helps Sorry for the lack of paragraphs, couldn't work out how to do it on this tablet!!

Just to add to the MSc comments - if you want to work in America and I think Canada, you will need the masters. If you think you might want to go into research in the future, or you have a clear idea of what you want to specialise in, it can be useful for that too. If you just want to get into clinical work, in the UK, it's not needed to practice. An advantage of the PGDip is that you have more time during the course for placement and other modules as you're not writing a dissertation!

If you convert afterwards you pay the fees, as the poster above said about 2k, and they say it's about six months full time or a year part time. Lots of people where I work have managed to do it while working, using compressed hours and study leave.

Personally I will do the conversion but wasn't sure what area I most wanted to focus on, so an happy to work for a year and then do it (you have 3 years after qualifying to complete the thesis).

    Hello lovely people,

I hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and I wish my fellow SLT wannabes a wonderful New Year.

I got word from QMU before Christmas informing me that I have gained a place to study the PgDip/MSc up there this coming August which is a nice start and will hopefully be followed with more good news from other universities (fingers crossed).

Regarding Newcastle interviews, I wish everyone the best of luck for the coming week. How are people set re: Case Presentations? Are you going into great depth etc? Not having the use of visual aids is going to make things a bit more difficult but I understand that it makes sense for the sake of brevity. I am quite nervous though. Whoever is in on Wednesday with me, Be kind.

Looking forward to putting some faces to usernames.

Was rejected from QMU, City and Newcastle, and also just heard from UCL that I'll be getting a phone interview as well. I have applied for MSc for all my apps.

I haven't heard from city yet! Haven't heard of anyone with an offer from them yet but I guess they probably wait until the other unis offer their places too, so that people can make a decision. Good luck for the next few weeks everyone x

No word from city and I'm manically checking emails too! But as people have had rejections I think we should keep our fingers crossed that no news is good news. I am going crazy waiting though. Why can't they put us out of our misery?! xx

You're definitely right - no news is good news! They probably will wait as long as poss because they'll coincide with the offers from other unis, ahh! Applicants for all other courses at every uni write about their interviews online, but SLT applicants seem to not exist! Where else have you applied?! x

Agree re. constant checking of emails! However, I do think there's a possibility we'll hear back next week or the following week (ie before the 6th feb) as this has been the case in previous years! Hopefully anyway
