Article: Is it possible to predict what universities will do on results day? Watch

As someone who has spent time today answering early Clearing phone calls, can I ask that you do your homework before calling a Uni.....

If you do not yet have your results it is pointless phoning. No Uni will offer you a clearing place on predictions !

If you cannot remember your GCSE grades, find them before you call. Have your exact grades/scores written down for your A levels, IB etc.

Do NOT get your parents or teachers to phone for you. We wont be impressed - you are supposed to be an adult.

Use your intelligence. Asking 'what courses are in Clearing?' because you cant be bothered to look on the website will not create a good first impression.

Be tactical. Middle-range Unis will have more clearing places than top ranking Unis. Unusual courses or unusual subject-combos will have more spaces than single subject degrees in standard 'school' type subjects - look at Social Policy rather than Politics, or Biology with French instead of just Biology, War Studies instead of History, International Development instead of Economics.

    Be polite.
