I was orginally going to do one debating home births too hospital but this new topics is a bit more fitting and i know more about it. Its finding a question, I pick up my results on thursday so i'll speak to my epq teacher then, and well done for doing yours! how long did you find it took? x
My schedule was a bit erratic, I started in September and collated some sources together and at that point my essay was kind of about four pages of bullet points of ideas. Then around March I realised I really didn't want to be doing it just before exams so I spent two hours every Friday for a few weeks on it. Overall I'd guess that I spent about 20 hours actually writing it and editing it and another 15 hours reading and doing research, but that's just a guess, I'm a fast typer but a slow reader

    Thank you.

I'll be able to tell you on Thursday when I receive my results, my teacher predicted me an A/B though. Make sure you get all the production log and resource record reviews parts done on time though, they're in a way more important than the essay itself.
Thanks! Good luck on Thursday! By the sounds of it, I'm sure you've done great!

And to be especially obnoxious: do you know if the photocopy of resources are necessary though because mine are approaching 40 in number only partway through the project? Did you include all of the items in your bibliography or specific ones? Sorry for asking you so many questions but my school hasn't been the clearest on everything we need...

I actually have a question for you now. When you handed your stuff in to be marked, what materials did you give to the examiner? Like the production log I presume and your final essay/product (and write-up?) but what else?

And, which exam board were you on?
I think that was about it. My 5000 word essay, a copy of my presentation and my production log. Was with AQA.

Apologies for interrupting but I think I might be able to help as I've completed the EPQ this year (my question was "To what extent have Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda dealt effectively with independence?").

    I seem to recall handing in;
    • Completed Production Log
    • Essay
    • Resource record (with reviews of their usefulness, reliability etc)
    • Important photocopies of resources I'd used (e.g. to show the examiner how this information was difficult to gather, or why I couldn't use a resource which was more reliable)
    • Print-out of my presentation
    • Prompt cards for my presentation

Our college did the EPQ with AQA I think, though I can't be definately certain. Pretty sure it was AQA though.

Hope I've been able to help.
Is it bad I only had three of these? My tutor never said anything about a resource record but that sounds like I should of done it.

I'm hopefully doing this in the coming college year - actually quite excited about it as it seems a lot more interesting than the strict sort of learning in my other subjects. I'm hoping to study either biology or biochemistry at Uni so trying to pick something that relates to this. Currently thinking about doing something on self awareness in humans and animals but not sure if this is broad enough so I'm pottering around doing something else in animal behaviour, evolution or something to do with neurobiology- maybe something on the effects of different brain conditions- anyone got any thoughts or ideas?

It's fine, ask away! I'm happy to help where I can.

Thank you! It's nearly all over with now thankfully.

Not all of them, I can't remember which specific ones I handed in or whether I even handed any in at all, but if I did it was only specific ones to prove a point - for instance, in my presentation I might have said how difficult it was to gain information about a certain aspect and therefore I submitted the photocopy of the resource I used for that aspect to prove that I have definately used it and that it's detailed enough to warrant inclusion & disregarding any issues surrounding reliability or bias.

I included everything that I used in my essay in my bibliography, along with anything else I could find that I had photocopied. Remember you can include websites in your bibliography - in fact, it's a good idea to use a mix of physical and digital resources to show that you're aware of the different ways of obtaining relevant information. That's something you'll want to cover in your presentation as well.

I hope all of that makes sense to you.

P.S. I forgot to say I also handed in a bibliography (thanks for reminding me ) and my timetable, showing what work I did during each week, whether I completed the work, the current title of my investigation (because mine evolved a lot from the beginning it was important to show how I narrowed down the focus of my question) and how much work I've got left to do in terms of a percentage. I'll try and get in contact with my tutor to see if I'd be able to upload my work so you can have a look if you want me to.

I shouldn't think so, I just liked to include everything just in case. My tutor said I might aswell just hand everything in - I think the resource record part ties in with the marks for constant evaluation of your work or something, can't fully remember. I wouldn't worry about it though.

Did anyone here do a chemistry related EPQ/Extended project? If so, what was it based upon? I'm kinda lacking ideas which is a nightmare really.

Is EPQ counted as a proper AS? I know some unis exclude subjects like general studies/critical thinking, is EPQ treated the same as those types of subjects or not? It doesn't say so on UCAS but just checking

it's just because some I'm going to apply to prefer 3.5, and I've only got 3. So if I did EPQ alongside my A2s, I'd be counted as having 3.5 (I think).

You know, I think it's dependent on the University. Derby said in their conditions of my offer that the EPQ will NOT be counted towards my points. However, Portsmouth said they will count the points up to 60 I believe. If you are unsure, email or phone the university to double check.

On another note, it seems my first EPQ grade from last year went up? I looked at my results today online and both my EPQs are set as grade "A".

Just a quick question, I did the AQA Bacc but my EPQ results slip only says I got 15 points and a C(c), which my teachers say stands for "Credit". I thought there was also a letter-grade, right?

I hope I didnt get 15/50 points... that would be very surprising. Everyone else got a C(c) too, which would surprise me very much too because a lot of their work seemed very polished o.O

Sort of echoing the post above, can someone help me interpret my AQA EPQ mark? It said I got 25 points, and an A*. How many points is it out of? My teacher said 50, but I have no idea how 25/50 would equal an A*...

Anyone understand the points system/know what it's out of?

    Hello,
Well I am taking EPQ as well as a bunch of people in school. And theres this dude who is actually cheating by just using his brother's Dissociation or whatever it's called as his EPQ. Can he get away with this? This is on the AQA board but his brothers was a University Dissociation based exam thing so it's still an exam sort of thing it got marked for in the Uni.

    Thanks hope he gets caught

I suppose if the university has logged it and then AQA do a bit of digging and they find it they'll most likely ban him from taking AQA exams in the worst case scenario as it is when you look at it plagiarism.

What do you mean by logged? Is that like they put it all onto a system that every exam bored cam check? Because Uni assighnments, are not given to any exam boards it's just the unis themselves I think

Can someone tell me what I got in my AQA Baccalaureate grade wise? I got an A* in my EPQ and a pass for my enrichment and the grade next to Baccalaureate says 'D'. Does that mean I got a D overall or a Distinction? Lol guess which one I'm hoping for? I got a C on my Critical Thinking though so I would understand if the grade was a D and not a Distinction. Can anyone help?

Whilst universities do not send scripts off to exam boards they do (to my knowledge) send them off to plagiarism checking services which then keep a record of the script for comparison with scripts submitted at a later date.

There was a big hoo-ha over it last year when students were just submitting old scripts that they had been sold. It's a lot more tightly controlled now I believe.
